Quality Engineer summary
In my previous role, I ensured product quality and customer satisfaction through rigorous quality assurance processes. I led the FIQA department (Final Inspection Quality Assurance) to reduce defects, optimize supplier performance, and foster cross-functional collaboration. Utilizing Lean Six Sigma, I contributed to process improvements, increased efficiency, and reduced waste. With the VP of Quality being in the US office it was especially important to have excellent communication skills and work independently.
After both the VP Quality and Quality Engineer left the company, I facilitated training sessions, managed Quality Engineering team resources, and supported corrective action updates. Additionally, I actively contributed to R&D projects, collaborated across departments, and utilized tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Business, ClickUp, Tableau, and CAD software. After this I was pomoted to Quality Engineer and began eorkin towards the Quality Engineer qualification.
In a managerial capacity, I led problem-solving activities, implemented process improvements, and reported on non-compliance issues. I developed and maintained supplier relationships including site visits to improve component quality, designed quality control processes, and documented engineering procedures. I played a crucial role in training and mentoring junior engineers, providing guidance, and implementing automated systems for enhanced efficiency.
As a Quality Technician, I led rigorous optics and laser testing, swiftly addressing non-conformance issues to enhance overall product quality. Through precise CMM measuring, specialist optics inspection, and proactive defect identification, I significantly improved production efficiency. This was especially important to do independently as the VP of Quality was primarily in the USA office and required precise updates on Google Meetings video chats so he knew of problems as they arose and what I planned tpo do to resolve them.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams, I played a pivotal role in developing comprehensive quality control strategies, ensuring optimal product performance. Managing defect databases and fostering strong supplier relationships, I contributed to a robust quality assurance framework and started to improve on the FIQA procedures.
Beyond overseeing meticulous testing procedures, I actively participated in achieving quality assurance objectives, implementing process improvements that heightened productivity in our operations. My role emphasized a strategic approach to continuous improvement, resulting in more streamlined workflows and a heightened focus on meeting and exceeding quality standards.
In my previous role, I significantly improved product quality through rigorous testing and adherence to industry standards, working within ISO 5 clean rooms and engaging in precision manual production for testing purposes.
I played a pivotal role in streamlining assembly processes, implementing innovative solutions, and boosting overall productivity through effective time management strategies. My responsibilities included enhancing data gathering, extraction, and analysis for diverse workflows and procedures, investigating processes, and developing optimal improvement approaches.
Reviewing blueprints and job specifications, I meticulously planned completion and estimated project costs. I conducted sub-assembly testing, troubleshooting problems with equipment or products, and actively participated in the development and enhancement of personnel work instructions.
Reporting findings and making proactive recommendations to senior leaders, I contributed to continuous process improvement. Building product subassemblies and final assemblies, I monitored and adjusted production processes or equipment, ensuring high-quality standards and productivity.
As part of my role, I managed quality assurance initiatives, testing selected products at specified stages in the production process for performance characteristics or adherence to specifications. I played a key role in selecting material quantities and processing methods for efficient production.
I maintained accurate production records, utilizing calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to calibrate and adjust machinery. I suggested and implemented new ideas to improve quality, reduce costs, and foster a positive production work environment.

I have been a barista, bar attendant (including cellar maintenance work), Team Leader for large events, and specialised in recommending wines and spirits to go with meals or as aperetifs.
Wave Optics was a very exciting time while it was in its development stage prior to being bought by Snap Inc. Wave Optics specialized in cutting-edge Augmented Reality equipment, utilizing groundbreaking waveguide technology for lenses that could be shaped like glasses or incorporated into other technological equipment. I was extremely fortunate to be selected from a large pool of applicants to work as a Production Technician, where I learned skills in precision optics inspection and building components and subassemblies using manual and automated methods. This began my journey into Quality Control, a crucial aspect given the challenges in determining whether components met the correct specifications or if production procedures needed adapting. It was disappointing when Snap Inc specified that 30% of all staff needed to be cut, leading to the loss of career-making roles when the NPI (New Product Implementation) Labs were shut down.

Kayaking: I I have been kayaking with my family since I was a child, primarily on rivers and progressed to sea kayaking when I was 15 while my family was posted Gibraltar with the RAF. I have especially enjoyed water water Level 3 training experiences and look forward to attaining a Rescue certification.
Running: After leaving the RAF with a knee injury, I was advised by the physio to not run again to prevent the injury from reoccuring. I have recently been assessed by a physio and found the injury has now resolved (after 12 years!), I am now excited to work towards running in half marathons by the end of 2024. Running gave me such a sense of freedom and independence as well as being good for the body.
Yoga: I have been enjoying yoga since 2020 during the lockdown in the UK meant I couldn't go kayaking. I have hoping to eventualy achieve the peacock position.
