Roles And Responsibilities

  • Patient admission including, orientation, risk assessment, observation, review of legal documentation to identify the patient's legal status.
  • Taking mental health referrals from the emergency department and pass on to doctors as required
  • Involvement in patient education – teaching patients about the services available to them, and providing them with an understanding of the medications they are taking and how the medication works.
  • Perform the team leadership role in the morning, afternoon, and night shifts
  • Mentoring students on placements and undertaking orientation of new staff
  • Participate in patient handover on change of shift to unit nurses
  • Handover of patients to a multidisciplinary team including doctors, occupational therapist, social workers, manager.
