WORK PLACEMENT

  • Blackwood Centre for Adolescent Development
  • I participated in over200 hours of work placement at Blackwood to fulfil the requirements of my Diploma.
  • The Blackwood program provides a unique, dynamic and positive small school environment for students with complex learning needs to re-engage with their education.
  • My main tasks were to communicate and build rapport with the students, being present as a role model and observing and learning the way staff would teach the students and how they would identify and respond to young peoples' needs. I was fortunate to also assist with the six day wilderness camp in the Blue Mountains in Sydney, which helped me gain employment with Blackwood.
  • This placement and subsequent employment taught me many skills and fed my desire to work with young people to achieve their goals, break generational cycles and encourage them to strive to become the best they can be.
