Summary

I am a self-motivated and cheerful recent University of Queensland Health Sciences graduate with current experience as a research assistant and disability support worker. I also have previous experience in hospitality. My time as a research assistant was incredibly valuable in developing my skills in communication, data collection and analysis and identifying potential research subjects. I was also able to appreciate the importance of working as a team and developing culturally appropriate resources. As a disability support worker, I have significant experience in assisting and connecting with clients with high needs. I work to connect with people, understand their needs and adapt to often challenging and fast-moving situations. I take pride in ensuring my clients feel safe and secure. My experience in support work and hospitality has developed my skills in multitasking while maintaining high standards in personal and professional interactions.

Placement working on the LEAP-CP program:

  • The Learning Through Everyday Activities with Parents program is a peer delivered early detection and intervention program for infants within Indigenous Communities at high risk of cerebral palsy. During my 6 weeks placement I assisted the senior research team to develop and refine the field resources used by Indigenous support workers to connect with parents and implement the program. This involved completing an in-depth review of hundreds of existing resources and editing, restructuring and adjusting those resources to culturally appropriate language
  • I participated in meetings to develop the approach to uplifting the resources, networking with industry leading researchers, field workers and other key stakeholders
  • The feedback from my placement supervisor complimented me on my work ethic, my ability to work independently and my proactiveness in seeking out additional work upon completing assigned tasks ahead of schedule
