Dr. (Mrs.) Eluwa, Idowu Obukohwo by marriage is a native of Umu-Uba Village, Umu-Okpara, Umuahia, South Local Government Area of Abia State, Nigeria. Born in Okiti-pupa, Ondo State in the Western part of Nigeria she did her primary and part of her post-primary school education at Army Children School, Ojo, and Archbishop Aggey Memorial Secondary School, Mushin, Lagos State respectively. She completed her post-primary school education at Edgerley Memorial Girls Secondary School, Calabar, Cross River State after which she proceeded to the University of Calabar, Cross River State. From the University of Calabar, she obtained Bachelor Degree in Mathematics Education, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees in Educational Measurement and Evaluation respectively.
Her teaching career started with the University of Calabar Demonstration Secondary School, Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria where she taught Mathematics and Further Mathematics for about 10 years before joining the main University system. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Measurement and Evaluation discharging her duties in the Department of Science Education, College of Education, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State, Nigeria.
She has served as the Head of Department of Mathematics at the University of Calabar Demonstration School and the Acting Head of the Department for the Department of Science Education – MOUAU for a duration of two tenures (January, 2017- April, 2021). Currently, she is serving in different departmental, College and University Senate committees till date. Before, 16th April, 2012, Dr. (Mrs.) Eluwa worked at UNICAL Demonstration Secondary School, Calabar, De-wis Schools, Calabar, Cross River State and Federal Government College, Bauchi. Bauchi State. She has been with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike from 2012 till date diligently discharging her teaching responsibilities.
As a professional in her field, she is a member of Association of Educational Researchers and Evaluators of Nigeria (ASSEREN), Organization for Women in Science for Developing the World (OWSD), International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS), Japan, Science Teachers Association (STAN), National Teachers Registration Council (NTRC), Nigerian Society for Educational Psychologists (NISEP), World Council for Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI) Nigeria Chapter, Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN) and some others.
She undertakes academic research in sustainable teaching-learning strategies, innovations and creativity in the teaching-learning process, and revamping education for sustainability with a view to enhancing quality instructional delivery for progressive economic growth. She has more than 40 academic publications to her credit. Outside her regular academic and research duties, she equally engages in early career choice coaching, leadership mentoring of women with the view to enshrine progressive ideas that prepares them take up leadership roles once such opportunities present themselves. Thus, she does advocacies and sensitization awareness campaigns to mobilize women to participate in governance and benefit from available government support initiatives.
Dr. Eluwa is a critical thinker with innovative ideas, proactive and pragmatic in decision making. She is very analytical, practical and smart at proffering quick but effective solutions to identified problems. She is good at gathering relevant data on identified problems, analysis and smart dissemination of output of information analyzed for informed decision making. In any assigned responsibilities, she is excellent driven. She does a lot of writing and editorial of written materials; as such, she has the requisite computer skills.
Finally, her core values are timeliness, discipline and hard work. I believe that keeping to time ensures efficiency and effectiveness in an organization while discipline ensures that individuals in a group work as a single unit with their team members to achieve organisational goals and objectives. In the same vein, hard work promotes self-discipline which ultimately leads to self-improvement, efficiency and increased productivity.
