• Process specimens on Advia2120i on whole blood for: -Full Blood Count (FBC)

-G6PD assay

-Platelet Function Assay (PFA)

-Reticulocyte count

-Thalassaemia/haemoglobinopathy screen

• Process specimens on Advia2120i on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for manual cell count, cytospin and culture
• Prepare and stain blood films, bone marrow aspirates, cytospins for CSF and malarial films (Thick and Thin)
• Perform Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR), Infectious Mononucleosis (IM) and Immunochromatographic test (ICT) for detection of malaria
• Prepare manual reticulocyte and platelet counts
• Perform internal quality control for Advia 2120i, AliFax Roller-20PN, IM screen and Malaria ICT screen
• Perform monthly correlations with connecting hospital
• Perform External Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for Advia 2120i, AliFax Roller-20PN, IM screen and Malaria ICT screen
• Perform routine maintenance on Advia 2120i, AliFax Roller-20PN and Hematek staining machine
• Meeting expected turnaround times for FBC
• Ensure sufficient blood products are available to meet the needs of any patients on life support or ongoing large volume of blood requirement
• Note current blood stock levels and order products from the Australian Red Cross Blood Service via BloodNet
• Monitor incoming specimens, prioritise work and complete all testing required
• Record all blood and blood product arrivals in Medipath and BloodNet
• Perform ABO/Rh group checks on blood
• Check the outstanding result list
• Perform daily maintenance for the ORTHO VISION Max and run QC
• Check temperatures of the blood bank fridges, freezer, incubators and waterbaths
• Perform BioVue and manual tube QC
• Perform daily and weekly cell washer maintenance
• Check theatre lists for Day Oncology, cardiac and craniofacial surgeries scheduled for next day. Reserve appropriate blood products from inventory
• Perform Kleihauer QC and test
• Perform antibody identification in both the analyser and manual method
• Perform crossmatching and phenotyping of units to assist in safe blood transfusion for patients
• Perform ABO/Antibody titre to assist in transplant and antibody identification respectively
• Perform further group check on patients with abnormal results
• Perform routine coagulation and testing samples for: Prothrombin Time (PT), Activated Partial Prothrombin Time (APTT), Fibrinogen, Thrombin Time (TT), D-dimer and anti-Xa within established turnaround time
• Store specimens for special coagulation tests: Factor Assays, Antithrombin, Protein C&S, LUPUS and Von-Willebrand Assays
• Notify actionable results or request to notify
• Prepare specimens for dispatch for coagulation tests referred to external laboratories
• Enter results referred to external laboratories
• Perform PFA tests and maintenance of PFA-200 analyser
• Perform quality control for Coagucheck XS PT Test strips and meters
• Prepare Haematology/Coagulation and general intra-laboratory supplies for connecting hospital
• Perform stock check for haematology/coagulation
• Perform daily and weekly maintenance on coagulation analyser, STA R Max

• Ensure efficient and prompt sorting, processing and testing of blood, swab (COVID-19 and Rapid Flu), urine and fluid specimens
• Attend to the care, storage, processing and disposal of pathology specimen
• Provide prompt, efficient and professional service to patients and medical staff
• Maintain patient confidentiality
• Perform interpretation and validation of results associated with testing.
• Relaying test results to the requesting doctors or nurses through digital medical records or via the use of telephone and fax
• Perform quality control and quality assurance procedures as required for compliance with regulatory requirements
• Recording of quality controls through the use of computer program (Unity), troubleshoot and record quality control problems demonstrating understanding and proficiency in the principles of quality assurance practices
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance for routine haematology (Sysmex XN-3000), coagulation (Sysmex CS-2500) and transfusion medicine analysers (Grifols – Erytra & Eflexis) as well as temperature checks for fridges and freezers used in the laboratory
• Ordering of blood and transfusion medicine products through BloodNet along with courier arrangement for delivery
• Accepting and processing of blood and transfusion medicine products upon arrival as well as storage of stocks
• Issuing of blood and transfusion medicine products
• Sending of blood products to the corresponding hospital with appropriate packaging
• Able to provide guidance and advice on clinical and scientific issues to other scientists, pathologists, patients and referring doctors
• Participate in training and learning modules provided.

• Ensure efficient and prompt processing of patients’ samples upon arrival to the laboratory, consistent with Quality Assurance standards
• Determine the eligibility and quality of samples prior to testing
• Maintain patient confidentiality
• Communicate with patients and medical staff in professional manner with regards to requirements in sample’s collection and pathology tests
• Sending away specimens for the required pathology tests onto another corresponding laboratories accordingly in a timely manner with suitable packaging
• Arrange for courier pick-up for urgent specimens.

• Perform daily maintenance of coagulation analysers (Sysmex CS-2500) in Haematology
• Loading and unloading specimens from the analysers
• Perform diagnostic medical testing procedures such as Infectious Mononucleosis test, Malaria rapid diagnostic test (CareStart Malaria kit), (Erythrocyte Sedimentation rate (ESR) under supervision of scientist
• Perform daily and weekly maintenance for Biochemistry analysers (Siemens ADVIA 1800), as well as, minor maintenance for blood gas analyser
• Interpretation and recording of results associated with testing
• Reporting of critical results via telephone to the requesting doctors or nurses
• Storing of blood specimens
• Perform diagnostic medical testing for blood gas specimens through the analyser.
• Receiving, checking and processing of pathology specimens upon arrival in the laboratory
• Maintain patient confidentiality
• Sending away specimens to the corresponding laboratories with the correct packaging
• Perform routine quality controls for Haematology and Transfusion, as well as, Biochemistry analysers.
