KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performing maintenance on large gas engines and compressors, this includes scheduled preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs.

FIELD SERVICE

- Predominantly working on Caterpillar 3608G and some Waukesha VHP engines in the field, completing scheduled services and inspections. Replacing cylinder heads, conrod bearings, turbos, hoses, filters, fluids etc. Engine start up and tuning using CAT ET, as well as diagnosing issues such as misfires and cold/ hot cylinders.

- These engines run large Ariel compressors and as field service technicians are responsible for up to complete overhaul (Con-rod bushes and crankshaft bearings etc) as well a routine checks and services. Good understanding of whole package and the different systems functions.

WORKSHOP OVERHAUL

- Engine overhaul- Full overhaul of large Waukesha gas engines in workshop.

- Screw compressor Overhaul.

- Full overhaul of large screw compressors in workshop. Full rebuild, replacing large roller and ball bearings. Setting of critical pre-loads and clearances.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performing diesel and gas engine reconditioning practices, from block machining and crankshaft grinding, to full engine dismantle and rebuild.

SITE WORK

- Site machining and field servicing.

- Often sent to machine and fit inserts into mining/ industry vehicle engines.

- Experience with field service on engines such as Jenbacher, MWM, Caterpillar and Perkins. This includes engines used in power generation, large earthmoving vehicles and underground mining vehicles. Cylinder liner assembly and cylinder head change outs as well as routine maintenance.

- Complete engine overhaul/ in-situ rebuilds on large gas engines such as the Jenbacher 620.

MACHINING

- Competent in all areas of machining engine repairs

ENGINE DISMANTLE/ASSEMBLY

- Underground vehicle engines requiring rebuilds, dismantling, surveying and washing engines.

- Meticulously survey and checked for damage and cracks. Thorough and accurate fault finding is critical in this task as damaged components could cause engine failure, increasing time and cost to complete the job.

- Assembling engines with exceptional attention to detail and precision. All parts are measured and cleaned extremely well before lubrication and assembly. Assembly includes rebuilding of compressors, water and oil pumps.

- Test running engines on the dyno, trouble shooting problems, and fixing leaks. Ensuring the engine is running correctly and that pressures and temperatures are within specification. Adjusting the fuel setting and timing to achieve the required power and to pass emission gases for underground vehicle engines.
