  • Key case: Worked on an NCAT hearing for a multi-billion dollar hospitality group in a payroll tax dispute with Revenue NSW. I prepared our detailed submissions to both NCAT and Revenue NSW, applying the relevant penalties and interest remission requirements in Part 5 of the Taxation Administration Act 1996 (NSW) to the group's complex facts and circumstances.
  • I advise clients on appropriate strategies for tax efficient business acquisitions and asset rollovers.
  • I represent clients against the ATO and Revenue NSW in various audits, independent reviews, objections, and tribunal matters.
  • I regularly present on topical cases and tax developments, both internally and externally, including presentations to external accountants on topics such as small business CGT concessions

Australian Taxation Office

  • I was the primary objections case officer on diverse tax matters for the ATO Objections and Review team. I managed objections cases for taxpayers involving complex CGT calculations, personal services income and personal services business determinations, debt recovery, Part IVA, liquidators distributions (s 47), goodwill, luxury car tax adjustments, stamp duty, GST, residency, CFCs, and foreign exchange transactions.
  • Key case: I was the primary objections officer for a non-commercial losses objection, which required detailed analysis of the taxpayer's personal and business history. I conducted multiple interviews with the taxpayer and applied Division 35 to their facts and evidence to reach a decision communicated through a detailed Reasons for Decision letter.
  • At the completion of my cases I wrote comprehensive Reason for Decision documents on behalf of the Commissioner, which communicated the tax outcome to the client in clear and concise language.
  • I engaged in settlement negotiations with external and internal stakeholders.
  • References: Daniel Nesci (current Assistant Commissioner for Integrated Compliance and Private Wealth Objections) and Isabella Edinger-Reeve (current Director in Private Wealth).
