The mine is equipped with a 3.2km drainage drive as well as a series of thru flow pumps for dewatering in this country of rains that average 30mm/day.

  • Achievements during Porgera C&M: - 24th March 2020 – June 2023 Open Pit
  • Successfully constructed rock-causeway – segregate west wall slip mud from UG drainage raise bores
  • As part of the causeway construction, established dual access into the pit bottom, hence making it safe to access, - away from failing high wall.
  • Erected used tromels as 1m diameter raise bore strainers, and 4x4x12m grizzly as decant tower to protect 4x4 drainage rise that link into UG drain drive.
  • Establish East Ramp during care and maintenance - as pre work to restart the mine – this ramp saves about 5km of haulage route for ore to Primary crusher.
  • Initiated discussion on alternate PC access after SECB failure – Birth of Tawi bypass concept – now included in the budget for 2024

  • NZ1813 primary pump station reinstalled and commissioned during C&M
  • NZ1813 pumps main drain line#1 damage (during normal operation) repaired – 2m up the 1m dia rise hole

  • Focus on having approved designs, schedules, execution plans and necessary documentation in place following necessary/approved processes – involving all stakeholders, assigning responsibilities and ensuring accountabilities on delivery to targets/and or mile stone.
  • Achievements:
  • Stage 5C Security Fence Relocation, including pilot road thru over grown tropical forest and bulk earthworks and – Achieved completion well under allocated funds (in 2 separate budget periods – 2017 $ 2018) - costed US1.5M from allocated funds of US$1.8M
  • OP Dewatering - organised purchase of Eddy pump (spent over US$1M). The system was setup to pump both water and slurry (up to 25% solids) out of the bottom pit ( until it got drowned)
  • Surface Water management – SP68 Drain diversion – identified, designed and managed bulk earthworks and construction of a diversion drain to access ore stockpile within scheduled time and cost (US$147k)
  • December 2010 – March 2020 (FIFO 16 days on, 12 days off QLD - PNG)
