In June 2025 I left for the USA to work at a summer camp as a camp counsellor, I was the fishing specialist as well as a general counsellor, sleeping and taking care of 10 children for 24/7 for two months.
I left Australia thinking that this job would be easy and I would enjoy every second of it, almost like I was getting paid to be on holiday. Although I did enjoy every second of it, this job was so much more than I expected.
This job tested my mental strength to lengths I haven’t been tested before, it was a very tough and mentally challenging job with little to no time off.
I had a group of 7-8 year olds, so they needed more care than the older kids of course, this included, making sure they are in the right clothes, making sure they brush there teeth, etc. I was basically a parent to 10 kids for 2 months.
In these 2 months the job moulded me into the man I am today and taught me skills that I will carry with me for the rest of my life, it was and always will be a very important time in my life
