  • Strong communication, observational, and time management skills.
  • Occasionally assumes the role of Shift Team Leader providing coordination of staffing and patient allocation, participate in bed meetings, manage efficient bed allocation and timely discharge planning.
  • Supervise, direct, and motivate high-quality performance from nursing staff when acting as Shift Team Leader.

  • Provide high-quality patient care and perform comprehensive assessments of patients, including vital parameters, toxicities and interpreting lab results, document findings and update progress notes.

  • Safely prepare and administer oral, IV and IM medications in accordance with sound working knowledge of legislation and the 8 rights of medication administration.
  • A demonstrated understanding and compliance related to the administration of IV anti-cancer drugs, and managing adverse events, such as hypersensitive reactions and extravasation, according to organisational requirements and best practice.
  • Access and manage care of implanted ports and PICC lines, and performed cannulation.
  • Provide quality end-of-life care to patients and support for family members.
  • Develop strong relationships with patients, families, supervisors, colleagues and key stakeholders.
  • Educate patients and families on treatment, expected outcomes and discharge instructions, serving as an advisory resource to patients and families to facilitate recovery.
  • Work closely with colleagues and contribute to a positive team culture by supporting colleagues.
  • Train new nurses in proper techniques, care standards, operational procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Attend team meetings and participated in staff development and personal growth programs.

  • Developed strong skills in recognising the signs of deterioration in patients.
  • Achieved the first ward clinical simulation on Febrile Neutropenia on 4 South, and will implement this as part of the ward culture.
  • Identified the need for “patient viewing windows” to isolation room doors for patient safety and well-being on 4 South. particularly during COVID lock down, backed by evidence-based practice. Viewing windows have been successfully installed in all four rooms identified.
