Jacques Van Den Berg

As a Project Engineer, I am responsible for the design, planning, and commissioning of electrical power and control systems. My primary focus includes PCS, substation designs, earthing systems, and protection designs. Occasionally, I am also involved in marketing activities and business development efforts. Over time, I am expected to manage small teams of engineers for small to medium-sized projects, with minimal oversight from senior staff.

• Tender documentation analysis

• Support the development of the engineering team with specialist skills to service the local heavy industry clients.
• Guiding and tutoring Graduate Engineers with project work, designs and technical issues. Review work completed by Graduate Engineers.
• Understand and keep abreast of International Standards, Australian Standards and legislative requirements.
• Manage and report on projects including budgetary and time frame management.
• Contribute to business development and direction by introducing new markets and innovations.
• Develop reports, specifications and technical papers as required by the company and its clients.
• Continual development and improvement of the company systems.
• Develop and maintain contracts with clients.
• Assist Senior Engineers with project work and designs.

• I have recently become a member of Beca's Industrial Team and am actively contributing to the Electric Arc Furnace & Fume Treatment project for New Zealand Steel
• My responsibilities includes overseeing essential brownfields work aimed at preparing the existing plant for the implementation of the new Electric Arc Furnace
• This involves undertaking critical Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering tasks
• Contributed to project success by providing technical expertise during the planning, design, and construction phases of various projects
• Increased energy efficiency by evaluating existing systems and recommending modifications or upgrades as necessary
• Evaluated vendor proposals for new equipment purchases, ensuring adherence to specifications while optimizing costeffectiveness

• Assisted in installation of electrical systems and components for commercial and industrial applications

• Manage the CAD operators and junior designers by analysing the integrity and accuracy of their designs as well as monitor junior designer's work to ensure technical quality and compliance
• Conduct site visits according to client requests including selecting PLC equipment in alignment with client's requirements while ensuring that Programmable Logic Controllers and Human Machine Interface Specifications are in line with client and software needs
• Oversee costs and adjudications including compiling budget quotations and bill of quantities detailing work, prices, dimensions as well as other details necessary for the construction of buildings
• Administer all aspects of projects including aiding in the procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (C1 & C2) stages
• Manage documents and produce regular status reports
• Conduct a Factor Acceptance Test, Hazard and operability study as well as a failure mode, effects, and criticality analysis
• Managed and Administer Siemens COMOS software
• Highly experienced in the following design deliverables, P&ID, Loop Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams, Location Drawings, I/O Schedules, MCC Layouts & Schematic Diagrams
