I am really eager to be accepted into the Postgraduate Diploma of Mental Health Nursing at RMIT. I am hoping to expand my knowledge in mental health nursing and further enhance my skills to help those living with mental illness. I am very passionate about helping those with mental illness and i am willing to do everything i can do provide the best care possible. Studying a postgraduate course in mental health nursing will also provide me with the skills and opportunities to work in a variety of mental health settings.
I am currently working on an acute mental health ward at Epworth Health Care. I am currently working 0.8 per fortnight.
I provide 1.1 therapeutic support to my patients with a range of different mental health needs.
Conduct risk assessments and ensure adequate safety is provided.
Work amongst a multidisciplinary team to provide the best support and outcomes for patients.
Establish care plans that align with patients goals.
Establish safety plans for patients on discharge.
Provide trauma informed care.
Medication administration and cinical documentation.
Demonstrate a high level of empathy, compassion, active listing, critical thinking and communication.
I successfully completed a 6 month transition program to Mental Health Nursing at Epworth Health Care. This included 6 educational study days, mandatory course work and a patient case study presentation at the end of the course.
The program focused on developing knowledge, confidence and skills within the clinical mental health nursing practice.
The completion of this program abled me to establish credit points to further my study. Epworth transition program has aligned with Rmit to recognise this prior study.
I have successfully completed a Graduate Registered Nurse program which included two 6 month rotations and 5 educational study days.
Rotation one: Acquired Brain Injury Unit
Caring and providing emotional support to those with post traumatic amnesia, ABI, TBI and aputations.
Neurological observations.
Physical assessments.
Wound care and management.
Assistance with ADL's and mobility
Providing a high level of patience, compassion and empathy.
Caring for patinets with nasel gastric tubes.
Medication administartion and clinical documentation.
Rotation two: General rehabilitation
Caring for patinets post surgical operations, strokes, parkinsons and cardiac health concerns.

Medication administartion and clinical documentation.
Wound care and mangement
Assisting with Adl's and mobility.
