• Responsible to senior management for the conduct of all submarine training in the Royal Australian Navy
• The role includes managing the programmes of multiple units and aligning them to maximise training opportunities
• Managing a team of 12 trainers/assessors and ensuring they meet expected standard
• Responsible for all operational documentation, ensuring it remains relevant and up to date
• In addition, a member of several senior working groups, meaning regular travel and meetings with senior personnel from multi-national government agencies.

• Head of a department of 25 personnel and third in command of a Collins Class Submarine
• Responsibility for all operations and planning
• A key role on board with significant input to the management of all aspects
• Regularly in contact with personnel from an array of government agencies and private companies
• Successfully generated and completed a long-term operational deployment as the key stakeholder from start to finish.

• Compiling and executing the navigational plan for an operational Collins Class Submarine
• Providing professional training to junior Officers in all aspects of submarine warfare and navigation
• Key role in the small adaptable team co-ordinating the Operations and Management Plan for the submarine
• Regularly briefing Senior Management and civilian/government organisations on the planning process for the submarine
• Onboard expert for the running and safety of the submarine whilst on the surface, directly answerable to only the Commanding Officer
• Compiling reports and briefings on intelligence and threat development to Senior Management
• Onboard subject matter expert for navigation, specifically electronic navigation systems

A varied career in Nuclear Submarines. Served aboard Astute Class, being actively involved in the delivery of HMS Astute and Ambush. Served initially as a trainee submariner before completing Navigation Officer training and acting as Navigating Officer onboard HMS Ambush. Duties included:

• OOD: Responsible for the safety and security of the submarine in port, including management of the Nuclear Plant and associated systems.
• Watchkeeping: Physical driving of the submarine at sea as well as being part of Command team, planning and executing operational plans
• Ship Control: Manage of Ship systems alongside and at sea, including safe management of Nuclear Plant and associated systems
• Safety Officer: Designated vessel safety officer for a $2BN platform with crew of 130 personnel
• Control of Work: Authoriser for safe systems of work during busy operational and maintenance period
• Managing the Warfare Department of the sub, with direct responsibility for the welfare, morale and discipline of 10 personnel; carrying out staff appraisals and development plan
• Providing professional training to Junior Officers and Crew members

• OOW: Deck Officer onboard RN Frigates, LHDs, Patrol Boats and Minehunters
• Boarding Officer: UK and Arabian Gulf, boarding and inspecting vessels
• Training Officer: Delivery of training to cadets and other officers
