SUBMARINE OFFICER

A varied career in Nuclear Submarines. Served aboard Astute Class, being actively involved in the delivery of HMS Astute and Ambush. Served initially as a trainee submariner before completing Navigation Officer training and acting as Navigating Officer onboard HMS Ambush. Duties included:


  • OOD: Responsible for the safety and security of the submarine in port, including management of the Nuclear Plant and associated systems.
  • Watchkeeping: Physical driving of the submarine at sea as well as being part of Command team, planning and executing operational plans
  • Ship Control: Manage of Ship systems alongside and at sea, including safe management of Nuclear Plant and associated systems
  • Safety Officer: Designated vessel safety officer for a $2BN platform with crew of 130 personnel
  • Control of Work: Authoriser for safe systems of work during busy operational and maintenance period
  • Managing the Warfare Department of the sub, with direct responsibility for the welfare, morale and discipline of 10 personnel; carrying out staff appraisals and development plan
  • Providing professional training to Junior Officers and Crew members
