Summary

Trainee within Telstra for two years rotating through 4 different teams. Construction and install with priority exchanges CBD, construction and install NSW wide, fixed maintenance on the transmission network and legacy equipment and finally wireless network maintenance and install.

I was offered a full time permanent roll in Telstra after my two year traineeship and completing my cert IV in Telecommunication Engineering and technology.

I was offered a roll in the Wireless Network Maintenance team where i have now spent most my time in Telstra in. I've got 18+ months in this space and have maintained, built, network planned, event setup, optimization surveying and much more in this space.

Key highlights

  • Day to day maintenance, fault finding, reprogramming and equipment replacement on all wireless technologies
  • At height work, harness work, fixed vertical ladder and rooftop maintenance
  • Decommissioning the 3G network, in the higher bracket of decommissioned equipment in CBD and surrounding suburbs
  • Optimization surveys, spent 4-6 months driving a unmarked vehicle with multiple configurations on phones and scanners gathering data from all cell towers. Gathering this data and sharing with engineers within Telstra to tweak and edit antenna bearings and outputs to better the network and provide optimal coverage to customers
  • Special event coverage deployment. Helping deploy COWS (Cellular on Wheels) at multiple events like, Easter show, Women's FIFA world cup, x-mas time in CBD, and many other rural events to help with coverage.
  • HSE shutdowns, internal operation we commence when contractors and clients need to undertake at height work on premises with mobile equipment and antennas are setup. We work hand in hand with both the requester, contractor and internal teams to shut sites down for safe work practise.

Telecommunications Civil

CCC
01.2020 - 01.2021
  • CCC was my first job after school which was my first introduction in the Telecommunication world. Working at CCC day to day work consisted of pit and pipe installation, fibre hauling, pit removal, fibre tagging, trenching for new pipe laying, excavating both dirt, road and footpaths.
  • A requirement for this job was to obtain my traffic controller license to help prioritise safety of members of the public as we undertook work. My traffic license also allows me to plan and implement signage to raise awareness to vehicles and pedestrians about the work ahead.
  • We also troubleshooted fibre breaks and repaired breaks using OTDR's and splicers. The enforcement of Coivd-19 rules in 2020/21 forced me out the job which later lead me to find my way into a trainee role at Telstra.
