Becoming an Apprentice AME at QANTASLINK involved a stringent interview and selection process starting at over 3000 applicants and narrowing it down to a final selection of 12 successful candidate.

• Responsibilities included:
• Work a rotating 6:6 roster consisting of 2 AM shifts and 4 PM shifts.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance across the Perth based QantasLink fleet.
• Carry out mechanical maintenance tasks on aircraft airframes, gaseous jet turbine engines, flight controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and cabin furnishings.
• Test, inspect and troubleshoot aircraft airframes, gaseous jet turbine engines, flight controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and cabin furnishings.
• Make use of aircraft and component manufacturer maintenance manuals and parts catalogues.
• Brake ride aircraft between the hangar, terminal and remote stand off bays.
• Communicate to air traffic control via aircraft installed VHF equipment. (AROC certified).
• Work under the instruction of licences engineers (LAMEs).
• Participate in "rescues" for aircraft requiring ad-hoc maintenance at remote mine sites/airports in order to get aircraft back to main base
• Carry out house keeping tasks both in the hangar and on company equipment stationed around the airport.
• Assist in the planning and time managing of set tasks throughout the course of the morning/night shift.
• Attend TAFE blocks as required.
• Own and complete an Industry Evidence Guide (logbook) showing entries for relevant jobs completed.

• After being sent to Karratha Airport for one week to assist in staff shortages on ramp, I decided to move permanently to assist further. My job description stays the same as it was at Perth Airport, however now working in a smaller, yet just as busy and intensive environment and have to separate 'Rig bags' for the Karratha Heliport, to go out onto the oil rigs.
• Responsibilities of my job as an RSO include:
• Be able to obtain an ASIC and pass any relevant background checks
• Baggage make up services
• Carry out agreed procedures to ensure baggage is sorted into correct flights/containers/compartments either manually or with electronic hand held devices.
• Operate ground equipment and vehicles according to qualifications and licenses
• Have operational contact with client representatives
• Have operational contact with Security, Airport owners/operators
• Have operational contact with cargo, catering, engineering and other service providers
• Work closely with the Ramp and Customer Service teams
• Work proactively to identify and resolve any issues that may affect, delay or hamper a flight.

• Specific to my job at Perth Airport, I worked in baggage makeup services at QANTAS terminal 3 and 4 for four months before moving onto the ramp for the remainder of my time in Perth.

• Responsibilities:
• Assist with planning and teaching of lessons of up to 6 hours in length.
• Teach classes of up to 26 students to sail small dinghies.
• Build and maintain healthy relationships with participants and parents/guardians
• Follow established course outline to prepare lessons and convey information and enhance understanding of materials.
• Keep classroom focused on lesson related discussions to further students critical thinking skills as well as understanding of the materials presented.
• Provide regular risk assessments and evaluate different locations as training grounds based on weather conditions, participant numbers and locational hazards.
• Work with children between the ages of 4 and 17.
• Enter water when required to assist participants.
• Work outdoors in bad weather
• Drive support boats and act as safety standby.
• Perform rescues in less than ideal weather conditions
• Instructed small student groups on individual aspects of subject matter.

• This was a summer job over the 2021/2022 summer break. This job required commitment, a keen eye for detail, organisation, time management and being effective as an individual and in a team.
• Responsibilities of this job included:
• Preparing and cleaning the yard for the week and day.
• Operating slip-way to move boats in and out of the water.
• Diving to make sure boats sit correctly on slip way cradles.
• Using a high pressure hose.
• Scrapping hard marine growth off hulls.
• Using chemicals.
• Painting.
• Polishing, cleaning and detailing vessels.
• Assist with mechanical work
• Performing general Maintenance.

• Responsibilities:
• Provide relief for instructors with higher Qualifications, entailing more responsibility and autonomy.
• Provide lots of flexibility with last minute decisions being made by supervisor as to who does relief work and when.

• Responsibilities:
• Build and package burgers under pressure to a certain design or order.
• Prep and stock the meat, vegetables, sauces.
• Label foods to prevent expiry and cross contamination.
• Clean and Prep workspaces.
• Wash and dry cooking utensils.
• Check freezer and cooler stocks.
