I am experienced working in an ever-changing newsroom environment and have made strides in my pursuit of becoming a full time reporter. Over the last five years of working in the industry, I have proven myself to be a capable and effective team member, and have cemented myself as an integral part of daily operations within the ABC's news department.
I am steeped in broadcasting as my parents are both veterans of the industry. My father is an accomplished international sports broadcaster, and my mother currently reads breakfast news for 6PR. I am acutely aware of the demands of the industry, including the long hours, high pressure, unpredictability, and the need to adjust to changing circumstances.
I have an excellent work ethic and believe everything should be done to the highest possible standard, and this is exemplified in the work I produce. I am collegiate and strive to be easy and pleasant to work with. I am a quick learner and respond well to hands-on learning, repetition, and clear and precise directives.
This is my main and current role at the ABC. My role requires me to edit scripts, proof check packages before they air, generate supers and weather graphics, and operate the autocue system. I have been in this role for over 5 years now and have cemented myself as an integral team member to the 7PM and Late News departments.
In 2023 I was placed on the 4:30AM radio reporter roster as backfill. My duties require me to look out for stories via press releases, MatCAD, and word-of-mouth. I call up multiple companies, governmental departments, and people to chase leads. I have conducted multiple phone interviews including one with Libby Mettam, and have produced numerous voice packages. I have also attended numerous press conferences, and filed stories for digital as well as radio.
Since December of 2023 I have produced and presented a classic film review segment on ABC Afternoons with Michael Tetlow. The reviews air live on a fortnightly basis and require me to research and dissect movies, and discuss what does and doesn't work about them. My preparation involves watching the movie and taking extensive notes, then writing an essay and cutting audio grabs, which Michael can tailor his questions to. My aim with this segment is to provide an easy listening experience which is both fun and educational.
