Experienced Education Assistant with a strong background in supporting students from early childhood to secondary education, including mainstream and special needs environments. At the beginning of this year, I was offered a teaching position at Bunbury Baptist College for Term 1, where I was working towards a provisional teaching certificate.
I teach in the PE department, covering subjects such as physical education, outdoor recreation, health, pre-PES, and fundamental movement skills for students in years 7-12.
In addition, I have a Year 9 class for pastoral care every morning and afternoon, providing me with the opportunity to build relationships and share God's word with the students
Throughout my time in this role, I have taken on many different responsibilities and have learned to adapt as I go.
One key aspect of my job is creating and delivering lesson plans that are clear, relevant, and aligned with the curriculum across different year levels.
I have also developed my skills in behaviour management, learning to implement both the strategies provided by the school and adapting approaches that work best for me and my students.
I've found that building constructive teacher-student relationships and setting clear expectations from the beginning has been the most effective approach for managing behaviour and creating a positive classroom environment.
Overall, this experience has allowed me to significantly further my knowledge and understanding of the school system
It has also given me the opportunity to form meaningful relationships with both students and staff, having added to my growth as an educator.
I was employed by the City of Busselton working as a Vacation Care Educator, ensuring a fun, safe and supportive environment for the children.
My main roles included supervising large groups during play, mealtimes, swimming and excursions, documenting and relaying information throughout the day and engaging children through play-based activities.
I strived to foster a positive workplace by modelling enthusiasm, empathy, and respect for all members of the program.
While working as a cleaner, I had many different responsibilities and performed tasks such as cleaning and sanitising in assigned areas, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and polishing surfaces/furniture.
Throughout the time, I demonstrated professionalism while interacting with customers and colleagues and grew positive working relationships with staff members through effective communication and collaboration.
I adapted well to changing work environments through quickly learning as well as demonstrated excellent time management skills by efficiently completing all tasks within specified deadlines.
During my time at South Coast Baptist College my role was to provide individualised support for students, addressing their unique academic/social needs in order to help them reach their full potential.
I worked across years 1-4, often taking out small groups to deliver modified lessons planned by either myself or the classroom teacher.
I also supported teachers by helping monitor students in both classroom settings as well as during outdoors activities to promote student safety and wellbeing.
I began employment at Cornerstone Christian College, Dunsborough at the beginning of Term 4 2021 and was then offered a permanent position at the school commencing the following year.
During this times I worked primarily in Pre-primary, Kindergarten and Pre-Kindy. My roles included preparing resources, over-seeing small group sessions and assisting students one-on-one, all whilst supporting the classroom teachers ethos.
I worked both independently and alongside the
teacher, helping to ensure the growth and development as well as the health and well-being of the students.
At the start of Term 4 2022, I was asked to transfer to Cornerstones Busselton Campus to work one-on-one supporting a child with special needs in Year Three.
My daily roles there includes; preparing and delivering literacy and numeracy lessons, assisting in toileting, implementing and
adjusting Physiotherapy, OT and Speech Therapy programs and corresponding with specialists to organise meetings and appointments. All of these are in line with the child’s current
Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Working in that role provided me with the opportunity to fully utilise my qualifications in both special needs and mainstream learning. It allowed me to learn and grow through different
challenges and changes as well as enabled me to form many positive, lasting relationships with both staff and students. Overall, it provided me with confidence in my ability as an
Education assistant and cemented my desire and passion to continue my work in this role.
As well as working with Intelife, I supported a client privately through Capital Guardians.
This position was self-employed requiring me to handle all my rosters, timesheets and finances independently.
My client had an intellectual disability making it difficult for him to socialise and interact with others. My main role was to encourage positive social behaviour through community access and interactions.
Throughout my time, it was rewarding to see my client start to branch out and make/hold conversation in social settings.
I worked with Intelife to bring support to those with disabilities in and around the community.
I had the privilege of supporting many different participants, from young to mature aged adults, helping in their day-to-day life, encouraging and assisting them in community involvement and helping with daily chores/tasks.
I dealt with disabilities ranging from learning/intellectual disabilities, autism, down syndrome and vision impairments.
Each came with their own challenges that I was able to help the participants overcome and grow through.
This job equipped me with multiple skills including one-on-one support, clear guidance/direction, problem solving and growing interpersonal skills.
I built many positive, trusting relationships with both my clients and their families whilst still maintaining professionalism to ensure they got the most out of our time together and received my best support and care.
I was employed at the salt kiosk for 4 years working well both independently and in a team.
I served as a friendly hard-working and punctual employee learning and developing new skills and abilities throughout my time there.
These skills include customer service, money handling, problem solving and learning to be a barista.
I also built many positive relationships with my coworkers and gained experience through real life situations.
