Over the last 6 and a half years of working in the industry I have gathered a magnitude of skills and tickets. While I was working as an apprentice at council and then as a tradesman at both council and Roadtek, I would be required to install and maintain electrical Infrastructure such as traffic signals, street lighting and Intelligent Traffic Systems. I have a wealth of experience working on large projects as both a team member and a team leader. Working in these areas has offered the skills and tickets required to work effectively, efficiently and safely. I have also been effectively trained in various SWMS and procedures and can complete any relevant tasks safely while being able to effectively identify hazards and the associated risks.
I am currently employed with Roadtek as an Electrical Mechanic and have been working here since early December, 2023. While working here I have strived to become an integral member of the team and learn all the required processes and procedures they employ. I have been predominantly working in the maintenance space where we respond to emergency works such as traffic lights either on flash or damaged and street lights hit by vehicles. Working in this space has helped me gain and build on my fault finding skills and constructive thinking while under pressure. I have also gained experience stepping up as an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor for a brief period of time. In this role I was regularly taking phone calls from the work crews helping to give clarification and recommendations when they ran into issues on-site. This role also led to me co-ordinating and planning jobs which would mean liaising with various engineers and multiple project managers daily. While I was glad to give the role back it was greatly beneficial by showing me a different side to the business and the work which I had been doing for so many years.
The first 4 years of employment at the council I was an apprentice. Throughout my apprenticeship I was exposed to and worked on the councils Fibre Optic network, CCTV cameras, Street lighting infrastructure and traffic signal sites.
while in the fibre optic department I assisted in the waterworks road project which had the purpose of cutting over all BCC owned intersections from 4G to fibre optics. I assisted in upgrading the Lutwyche MIPOD so all the fibre optic cables would be run through the hut.
After completing the apprenticeship i was kept on as a traffic signal technician on the night-shift crew which is where I remained until I moved on. while there I assisted and when required lead the crew in:
I have also gained experience as a team leader in charge of projects and coordinating onsite sub contractors under the supervision of the current team leader. Which has subsequently helped me develop leadership skills. Through this opportunity I was given it helped me develop the skills to efficiently be able to liaise with QPS and BMTMC as well as rectify any concerns they have regarding the job and complete site pre-starts.
I have also assisted in installing as well as fault finding councils street lighting in parks and bikeways. Including tagging out and isolating, as well as rectifying sites damaged from the 2022 floods.
