My experience as an acting station officer has helped guide me as a clinician, and has provided me with the opportunity to manage a small team again. This area of my life is of great pride, and I enjoy it thoroughly. Small team management is a passion of mine and provides me with significant drive to support those who put on the blue uniform every day and protect our communities, to which I hold the highest regard.

I apply the last decade of team leadership experience to my role, and I have drawn from this to learn and complete the role to the best of my ability within the parameters of training received. Operate within high-stress environments, under varying levels of fatigue, to carry out objectives. A strong, relatable focus on communications via radio means to and from command and control to navigate resources, formulate action plans, and complete an objective. This frequent, scenario-based learning environment has prepared me to function well within the forward commanding role in NSW Ambulance while completing A/Station Officer duties.

Above all else, this role has contributed to my growth as a human being. Through physical and mental tests, I have strengthened my resilience and capability. I approach all aspects of my life, especially my work, with drive, dedication, and a willingness to reflect and improve every single day.

Oversaw daily operations of assigned cabin groups, ensuring adherence to schedules and camp rules for both staff and clients. I reinforced my team-leading and time-management skills throughout this role.

Collaborated with faculty to align tutoring strategies with course objectives. This experience has directly guided my ability to mentor staff within NSW Ambulance, with a heavy focus on staff development and education.

Supervised daily operations, including assigning duties, site management, safety, and customer engagement. Reviewed employee performance and provided ongoing feedback and coaching to drive performance improvement. Resolved customer inquiries and complaints requiring management-level escalation. My experience gained as a small team manager has shaped my ability to develop staff of varied backgrounds and abilities, provide effective conflict resolution, and inspire through action.

I worked my way up from a casual cleaner to a team lead for the activities department through dedication, reflective practice, and upon employment as team lead, my role involved the creation, implementation, and execution of operating procedures, policies, training programs, and direct engagement with clients. I engaged in frequent meetings with staff to achieve objectives, aided other departments, and provided regular reports to senior management on team performance, challenges, and strategic recommendations.

This prior managerial experience has provided me with the foundation to continue to learn and reflect in every other managerial position that has followed since. Because of this, I understand my challenges, areas for improvement, areas of success, and strategies to continue growth and understanding. To me, this role was integral in developing the man I am today.
