This role uses a combination of physical labour, customer service, and problem-solving.
In this role I had a wide range of tasks;
Menial jobs (e.g. trimming and packaging buds).
Operating machinery (de-budding and trimming machinery).
Assisting in the winterization of oil products.
Using winterized oil to create oral oils as well as being involved in the bottling and packaging process.
Using winterized oil to produce vape cartridges (the most technical process would be setting up the machines for dispensing the oil and sealing the cartridges).
Sampling the marijuana buds (i.e. packaging small quantities; some of which were stored while others were sent to labs on the mainland).
Assisting in moisture tests for the marihuana buds.
Performing calculations and writing up the paperwork for many of these processes.
In this role, I assisted in both lab work and office/admin work;
In the lab, I performed basic soil dispersion and shrink tests as well as the occasional "fizz test" for calcium carbonate.
I was also writing up the reports for the soil foundation assessments of the sites using a template that was often evolving:
A basic site analysis was written with nearby waterways and wind-loading being noted.
I would determine soil classification (using AS 2870 Site Classifications) by analysing the field notes (grain size, colour, texture, structure) and the data from the tests; inserting tables based on the DCP results with reasonings for the soil types we concluded were on site.
Using this information, I would then follow the template to determine the bearing capacity, and then recommend the foundation depth.
The drafted report would then be sent to the Geologist to make sure everything was correct and add any necessary recommendations or edits.
I would also occasionally assist with writing the reports (again using a template) of the onsite wastewater designs using the same soil classification methods.
I also would assist in the admin side of the business; sending and receiving invoices, organising files, and phone calls and emails with clients (new and existing).
I worked in the meats department, bakery department, and in POS.
Meats department involved unpacking and stocking shelves.
Bakery department involved basic bakery skills like cooking par-baked bread and flat bread, frozen cookie dough, and creaming cakes and other baked goods. Also with stocking shelves.
POS involved customer service skills, knowledge of what was where, recommendation of products and scanning items and packing bags.
