Jean-Louis (John) Royer

In just over a year at Amast (Australian Management and Safety Training) I was based at New Wilkie Energy (NWE) in the Kogan/Macalister area where i was an ESO doing 7/7 DIDO.

Whilst there, our team including myself dealt with a few minor incidents, trained with operators, conducted mock up exercises, met with OCE, SSE and Health and Safety to write risk assessments as well as SOPs.

NWE went into administration last Christmas and i found myself working at Bluff Mine near Blackwater where I was in an ESO role plus security and check in at the front gate for D&A testing.

Whilst working for Amast I gained many qualifications.

• Improved workplace safety by conducting thorough risk assessments and implementing necessary control measures.
• Conducted regular safety audits, identifying potential hazards and implementing corrective actions promptly.

• Performed life-saving procedures during medical emergencies, administering CPR and first aid as needed.
• Collaborated with fellow firefighters to execute efficient firefighting strategies, mitigating property damage and loss of life.
• Assisted in the containment of hazardous materials spills, ensuring public safety and environmental protection.
• Maintained optimal readiness for emergency situations by regularly participating in drills and training exercises.
• Conducted search and rescue operations during natural disasters, locating trapped individuals and providing assistance as needed.

• Love being a Firefighter as i love helping the community. Dealt with many incidents from structural fires to road crashes to mountain rescue to community interaction.
• Experienced / encountered great memorable moments with the community and public as well as sad ones dealing with casualties and fatalities.
