As an Enrolled Nurse currently working on the Neuro-Ortho ward at Royal Perth Hospital, I’m dedicated to delivering person-centred care that makes a real difference in the lives of patients and their families. The values of Care, Integrity, Respect, Excellence, and Teamwork are at the core of everything I do—they guide every decision, every interaction, and every moment spent with patients, families, and colleagues.
My daily work in a busy hospital setting has shown me that genuine connection is the foundation of great care. I take the time to understand each patient’s story, preferences, and unique needs. This connection isn’t just about building trust with patients; it’s also about supporting their families, making sure they feel heard and included in their loved ones’ care. My hospital experience has strengthened my abilities in thorough care planning, clear and compassionate communication, and strong advocacy for those who need it most, especially individuals with disabilities or complex needs.
Clinically, I’ve developed a broad and adaptable skill set: wound care management, both male and female catheterisations, and medication administration through all routes. My time on the Neuro-Ortho ward has made me confident with enteral tube feeding, stoma care, and the management of complex medical conditions. I’m experienced in supporting patients with challenging behaviours, using person-centred approaches and de-escalation techniques to create a safe and respectful environment, even in high-pressure situations.
Working in an acute hospital environment has sharpened my clinical judgment and adaptability, and it’s reinforced the importance of effective teamwork within a multidisciplinary setting. Every day, I see how collaboration leads to better outcomes for patients and a stronger, more resilient team.
Empowering patients is central to my approach—helping them maintain independence, achieve their goals, and protect their dignity. I pay attention to the small things, knowing that respect and kindness are reflected in every interaction. I also value the opportunity to learn and share knowledge, supporting my colleagues so we can grow together and deliver the best care possible.
Continuous learning has been key to my development, keeping my practice up to date and responsive to the ever-changing needs of the hospital environment. I’m excited about the possibility of bringing my experience, skills, and deeply held values to SMHS. I’m confident that my background—grounded in real hospital experience and a commitment to person-centred care—will allow me to make a positive, meaningful impact within the organisation.
