Postnatal Ward/Antenatal Ward/Community Midwifery Service

• Caring for women in the antenatal period as an inpatient for various reasons including but not limited to Placenta Praevia, shortened cervix and threatened premature labour.
• Caring for women in the immediate postnatal period for reasons that required them to stay longer in hospital, including but not limited to Caesarean Section, instrumental birth and breastfeeding issues
• Advocated for mothers' rights and choices to make informed decisions about care by respecting human autonomy.
• Caring for babies not unwell enough to require admission to special care nursery including but not limited too; warming, blood sugar monitoring, phototherapy and IV antibiotics
• Directed parents and newborns to physicians without causing parent alarm based on problematic test results and health conditions of babies and mothers.
• Caring for postnatal women and families in their homes upon early discharge from hospital
• Promoted benefits of breastfeeding and offered education on proper positioning, latching and breast care.
