The National Immigration status service (NISS) is a 24/7 operation based in Melbourne that works with law enforcement agencies across Australia providing immigration status information to all law Enforcement Agencies across Australia in relation to individuals suspected of being unlawful. If identified as a person of interest, the officer will then assess and refer to the appropriate areas of the department for further consideration/ action.

• Detain Unlawful Non-Citizens under s189 of Migration Act
• Liaise with Australian Police stakeholders and assess appropriate action/ decisions with the intelligence that is received
• Liaise with Detention Operations team in other states
• Liaising with law enforcement agencies ensuring all information is within the departmental policy

Senior Criminal Cases Officer within the ABF are responsible for monitoring unlawful non-citizens of interest as they progress through the criminal justice system and coordinating the detention of non-citizens being released from criminal custody on completion of their custodial sentence. The work that is undertaking consist of detaining unlawful non-citizens upon release of criminal custody (prisons) and transporting them to the immigration centre.

• Perform the Duty officer and Court officer role
• Transport detainees to Migration Centre (MITA)
• Liaise with Magistrate and County courts for prison release detentions
• Liaise with the Department of Justice and Prosecutions for prison release detentions
