• Since the start of my registered nursing career, I have worked predominantly in medical-surgical area of nursing. This includes providing care to patients pre and post-surgery. More recently, I have worked in a multiple surgical specialty ward whereby I provide care to more acute surgical patients according to their needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducting physical examinations and writing reports
• Monitoring patients conditions and recovery progress
• Providing personal care to patients
• Maintaining high standards of care in accordance with regulations
• Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of different aspects of patient conditions
• Liaising with patient families and medical specialists to raise concerns and gain extra support where needed
• Applying dressings and administering pain relief, antibiotics and other medications as required
• Referring patients to specialists for complex health issues
• Educating patients as required
• Treating and dressing wounds

• As an AIN in an emergency department in a local hospital, my main duties were observation and monitoring of patients waiting to be seen by a doctor post being triaged and communicating with relevant medical staff, usually the nurses if any deterioration occur whilst patient is awaiting a medical consult. My role also included observing mental health patients with an extensive mental health history that were under a mental health act for various reasons.

• As a carer in a residential aged care unit with high care dementia residents, my role was to attend to the personal care and hygiene needs of the residents as well as caring for their mental and emotional wellbeing which included engaging in activities that the residents enjoy.
