As General Manager and owner of a successful and profitable hotel management business my responsibilities are without end. My role includes everything from marketing the hotel and ensuring occupancy and revenue are maximised every day of the year to recruiting and training staff. I must always undertake self-guided training to ensure that the business is compliant with all employment and work health and safety laws and that the management company and staff, the building and the body corporate of insurances are sufficiently. My day-to-day tasks include managing the finances of the hotel and reporting to investors via the use of accounting software and advanced property management software.
As a Marketing Manager for a shopping centre in a large property management group I had the privilege of running my own department and delivering results for key stakeholders of the business. Key areas of my role include staff and property management, reporting on results to property owners and designing and implementing strategic campaigns aimed at increasing customer foot traffic, sales and dwell time as well as improving the centre’s relationship with the local community. Controlling a budget of over 1.3 million dollars per annum I successfully lead the marketing team and delivered numerous national campaigns, school holiday activities and retailer support initiatives. These campaigns generated an average return on investment of 200% for the centre in terms of free publicity. In addition to foot traffic and sales I delivered on other key deliverables including growing the businesses social media presence to a point where our social media reach greatly overshadowed the use of traditional press media.
For 2 years I held the role of Merchant Services Manager for Entertainment Publications of Australia. In this role my core purpose was to provide tailored marketing solutions for clients and to develop new business for the organisation through face-to-face networking and negotiations. In addition, I learned how to manage staff members and their needs while providing the guidance and support necessary to reach their set sales goals and deadlines through key performance indicator management. In addition to these duties I was also able to successfully reach my own goals and deadlines. I had also maintained and managed relationships with top restaurateurs and business chair people around Canberra while providing them with marketing solutions for their business needs. Through carrying out these duties I have also acquired knowledge of the technical process involved with compiling a complex publication.
During my time with Four Seasons I was involved in their Management Traineeship program as a ski concierge supervisor. As a supervisor I managed a team of 27 people and was responsible for the smooth operation of the department on a daily basis, my duties also included inventory management, staff scheduling and reporting to management. The Management Traineeship also allowed me to participate in a number of courses that assisted my development as a manager.
From June 2005 until June 2007 I worked in the retail industry within Liquor Land of the Coles Myer Group. During my time working at Liquor Land I gained all of the necessary abilities to run a small retail business. After 12 months, due to my efforts and the reallocation of management, I was promoted to the role of store manager. In this position I learned to carry out day to day management tasks including stock ordering, expanding stock lines through tastings and research, merchandising, staff scheduling, reporting daily operations to head office and dealing with general problems that arose. I also attended a number of training programs that my position called for including sales and customer service seminars and an armed hold up and response training course.
