Cast Floor:
⦁ Oversee and execute the casting process, ensuring the efficient and accurate casting of molten steel. Utilise expertise to maintain optimal casting parameters, such as temperature and speed, to achieve high-quality steel products.
⦁ Operate and maintain casting machinery and equipment, including continuous casting machines, tundishes, and moulds.
⦁ Utilise data from the casting process to analyse performance metrics, identify trends, and make data- driven decisions.
⦁ Conduct regular inspections, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs and upgrades.
⦁ Maintain accurate records of casting activities, including production output, quality data, and equipment maintenance. Generate regular reports for management to assess performance and make informed decisions.
⦁ Monitor and optimize gas usage on the tundish car to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
⦁ Implement fixed plant isolations as required to facilitate maintenance activities and ensure a safe working environment.
⦁ Working with the bridge and gantry crane to rig up new moulds and benders to change bar sizes.
Ladle/Billet Deck:
⦁ Monitor tundish and ladle weights
⦁ Use equipment to take temperatures of the molten steel inside the tundish.
⦁ Use equipment to take lab samples of the molten steel inside the tundish.
⦁ Operate a ladle turret and perform rotations with 200 ton molten steel ladles.
⦁ Perform ladle exchanges swapping out used ladles with new ones. This requires stripping off hydraulic hoses, air hoses of the used ladle and rotating the turret. Then connecting the services on the new ladle under a time pressure to continuously cast
⦁ Setting up/connecting tundishes to services and thoroughly checking to ensure safe casting conditions
⦁ Operating a tundish preheater to ensure tundishes are superheated to avoid thermal cracking at the start of a cast
Run Out Area:
⦁ Operate a highly complex multi panel torch cutting machine to cut steel bars to customers desired lengths.
⦁ Operate a multi panel control console to ensure cut bars make it to the end of the 50 metre roll line to be picked up by the product crane
⦁ Monitor product specifications, inspect cast products for defects, and take corrective actions to ensure the production of high-quality steel products.
Product Crane:
⦁ Operating a bridge and gantry crane with a specialised tong beam to pick up and move steel bars to desired location
⦁ Assist electricians and fitters with auxiliary hook to lift up any equipment to repair torch cutter and roll line. For example replacing old rolls.
⦁ Pick up and move 10 ton scale bins with auxiliary hook
⦁ Assisting in emergency situations with a C hook to pick up slewed bars
Ladle Crane:
⦁ Operating a bridge and gantry crane to pick up 200t steel ladles
⦁ Operating a bridge and gantry crane to pick up 60t tundishes full of molten steel
⦁ Operating a bridge and gantry crane with a 60t auxiliary hook to lift up whatever is needed on the cast floor. Which sometimes includes 50t segments and parts for the casting machine
