Jordon Salaun

For the past year I have been doing licensed contract Metal Fabrication work. I have completed the following jobs:

• Colourbond Fence to surround front and rear of property in suburbia. I had to enquire with local council for services to clear and work with the customers neighbours.
• Cattle Shelter for a rural property, which was made out of recycled and new materials to save the customer on cost.
• Large Carport for a local Business (Brown and Hurley, Kyogle) I fabricated and erected the carport while keeping to all the health and safety policies I was required.
• Small Carport for a residential property, this customer had purchased a pre-fabricated frame that I erected under my license.
• Solar Powered Automatic gate for a rural house block that operates via a remote system. I fabricated the steel gate and fit the automatic gate kit.
• Mains Powered Automatic Gate for a suburban house block that operates via a remote system. I fabricated the gate out of aluminium and fit the automatic gate kit.

• TJM is a 4x4 accessories company that delivers all types of camping and off road equipment. I have an extensive knowledge on fitting hard accessories eg( Bullbars, steps, suspension etc). I specialise in custom electrical setups for camping and vehicle accessories eg ( driving lights and electronic rust protection etc).
• Supervised day-to-day operations to meet performance, quality and service expectations.
• Managed job allocation and workshop staff.
• I was also responsible for stock, store aesthetic as well as dealing with problems with the customers and jobs.
• I also did my auto electrical training while I was working here.

• Duraplas is a rotational plastic moulding plant that is mainly known for plastic water tanks. My duties here were maintenance and repair as well as oven worker when needed.

• Here I learnt to diagnose issues and rectify problems alone.

• Maintenance and repair covers anything from bearings and shafts (Fitter work) to repairing cracked frames in the ovens and erecting structures (Boilermaker and Builder work).

• I had to manage my time alone and was responsible for completing my own work by the deadlines I was given.

I gained valuable experience in the Mining Industry with heavy tools and machinery that I hadn’t worked with before but am now confident using day to day. I have also experienced going to shutdowns as a Boilermaker at:

Solomon Mine

A FMG owned mine run by Leighton were I have been a number of times through Thyssenkrupp. I reinforced the Reclaimer Bucket Wheel by adding custom wear plates, re-greased a number of belt motors and the reclaimers slew ring bearing.

Wodgina Mine

An Atlas owned mine run by CSI (Crushing Services International) where most of my shutdown experience has been. I have welded patches on chutes, replaced crushers, fabricated and fitted guards and other frames, re-greased bearings, scraper and skirt repair and maintenance, and any other maintenance they may have required.

Rio Tinto Dampier Salt Lakes

A Rio Tinto owned and run salt mine, the world’s largest exporter of salt. I have been here many times as well as done numerous fabrication jobs in the workshop. On shutdowns at DSL I have done grizzly repairs, fabricated and installed cyclone hoops, rust repairs in the wash bay, cyclone damage repairs, and roller replacement.

Rio Tinto Salt Port (Port Hedland)

A Rio Tinto owned and run Port which loads the salt onto the ships that deliver it all over the world. For the Port I have fabricated and installed handrails, replaced rollers with impact beds, roller frame fabrication and replacement and general maintenance when needed.

FMG Port (Port Hedland)

FMG owned and run Port the final exchange of iron ore from Australia to the ships where it gets taken around the globe. I have been on a few shutdowns at the Port on the ship loader doing launder repairs and modifications, dis-assembled a platform to reduce load bearing, and modified the existing frames to fit a new design of belt rollers.

• I assisted in the fabrication shop welding up aluminium toolboxes.
• I also learnt the basics of auto electronics and became one of the few who could do the wiring fitouts in the campers and caravans.
• I adapted to working with a large number of people well and had to manage my work around others in order to efficiently get my job done without getting in the way of others.

• Acquired competency in working with the complete process of steel construction from excavation, concreting, fabrication and onsite installation. (It was a family business I started working for part time for in 2005 at 10 years of age)
• Assisted in the fabrication of shed frames, ensuring accurate measurements and correct welding techniques.
• I assisted the engineer and draftsmen with fabrication plans by dimension detailing them for the workshop.
• During this time I also worked nights and weekends at IGA doing checkout and re-stocking.
