Work History

Maintenance officer

Mercure-Novatel
05.2019 - Current
  • As a maintenance officer with Accor, my main duty was to make sure all rooms, interior and exterior are presentable to guests.
  • Repairing of any damage, either caused by guests or ordinary wear and tear, cleaning up foliage around the property and tending the swimming pools.
  • A lot of the time was spent maintaining air conditioning and specialised building projects.
  • Accor

Owner business

Sub-contracting
01.2019 - 05.2019
  • As a sub-contractor, I am required to operate both autonomously and as a team.
  • Sub-contracting can be very challenging as you have the responsibility of operating as a Director of your business, overseeing items such as taxation, superannuation, insurances, and sourcing new works.
  • In addition to this, as sub-contractors often work on construction sites together reporting to a Site Manager, you then form part of a team, whilst still having responsibility for your trade skill set.
  • Sub-contracting requires high organisation and time management skills, as well as customer service skills.
  • It is not uncommon for sub-contractors to deal directly with the customer, and a bad experience can reflect both on yourself and the team in general.
  • Given my skill set, I am also required to be extremely flexible, often carrying out works outside of my scope to achieve the overall timeline.
  • I have also found on many occasions whilst working directly for myself, where I have been required throughout my working career to be multiskilled to provide an exceptional service to the customer and meet deadlines.
  • Given my knowledge within the building trade and often being placed in multiskilled areas, I often find the customers consulting with me as the ‘go to person’ for the given job.
  • I have worked for many clients directly and also sub-contracted to various companies throughout the NT, example of these are: Darwin Walls and Ceilings, Katherine Concreting, Northern Building and Property Services, Baderbuilt.
  • Works carried for these companies includes full house painting (both internal and external), plastering works, ceiling replacement, tiling and bathroom renovation.

Maintenance Officer

Travel North Pty Ltd
06.2015 - 01.2019
  • As a maintenance officer working for Travel North, I was required to carry out various physical maintenance repairs to a variety of Travel North’s assets.
  • Works carried out included general carpentry works, repairing of locks, doors, windows, etc.
  • Painting works, plastering works, tiling works, basic plumbing and identifying electrical faults.
  • I was also required to carry out general upkeep of company assets, such as yard works, including lawn mowing, weed management, and garden maintenance.
  • Given my role and knowledge of the assets, I was also the liaison contact for when contractors were required and would assist if required.
  • Travel North’s business is dependant on customer’s satisfactions and ratings with ‘word of mouth’ playing a huge part for the perception of new customers.
  • As my role required dealing with customers directly, it was imperative that I was able to provide a professional image and understand people from a diverse background.
  • Being able to deal with confrontation was also critical as some customers can become agitated when maintenance is required on assets that impact them.

Self Employed
