Ore Preparation Supervisor

  • In 2017 I was promoted to the Ore Prep Supervisor (I have since been promoted to Metallurgy Mill Production Supervisor).
  • Overlook and run a 12-man crew.
  • Manage crew member's rosters and flight changes.
  • Manage production and safety targets.
  • Work with the Human Resources department and Management when issues arise with employees including implementing disciplinary action when required.
  • Mentored Indigenous trainees on my crew and assisted them in achieving their training goals.
  • Work closely with metallurgist on blend changes, head grade expected for different types of ore and screen panel sizing.
  • Knowledgeable with all crusher equipment, including but not limited to vibrating grizzly, primary jaw crusher, primary and secondary screens, secondary crusher and 2 x tertiary crushers, conveyor belts and feeders and identifying and reporting on any maintenance or production issues.
  • Completing crusher daily checks of conveyors and rollers, crusher gaps and adjusting to meet targets, check crushers for damage or hydraulic oil leaks, crusher hydraulic oil levels, screens for wear, feeders and general clean up.
  • Completing weekly crusher shutdowns to inspect and replace worn parts on primary and secondary screens, inspect and clean spider arms on secondary and tertiary crushers, change out damaged rollers and delegate and/or attend to any maintenance or electrical repairs that need doing.
  • Knowledgeable with all HMP equipment including but not limited to conveyor belts, feeders, feed prep screen, floats screen, sinks screen, dewatering screen, sumps, pumps, cyclones, magnetic separators, ferro silicon, floc station and a thickener.
  • Completing HMP daily checks, conveyors and rollers, screens and spray on screens, gland water on pumps, floc station, 4 x samples for lab results, any damage or leaks, manual sg on ferro silicon and general clean up.
  • Tailing dam checks, inspect tails line from mill to pour point at tails dam, report tails line inspection on computer (date, time, what pour point on, any actions required), move pour points when requested, replace burst disc when blown and pump tails return to mill when required.

Level 1 Production/Mill Operator

  • Read and understand MSDS sheets about the use of chemicals.
  • Wearing correct PPE for certain jobs and chemicals.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work area from slips and trips.
  • Handling of chemicals including copper, xanthates, dextrin, gardi and floc.
  • Mixing of reagents to keep up with production.
  • Logging chemicals, dates, SG, and cells where copper is transferred to.
  • Taking samples of copper and xanthates for the lab.
  • Daily use of forklift.
  • Monitoring water treatment plant daily.

Primary Grinding and Regrinding Circuit Area

  • Use of correct PPE and safety equipment when required.
  • Operate grinding circuit mills consisting of a Sag Mill, Ball Mill, Verti Mill, 2 x M10000 Regrind Mills, 2 x M5000 Regrind Mills and 4 x M3000 Regrind Mills.
  • Monitor and visual checks in grinding area, primary cyclones overflow and underflow density, feeders, conveyer belts and rollers, feed chute, hoppers, screen deck, Verti Mill density, pumps and gland water, regrind cyclones, regrind cyclone packs sized once a swing, media bins are full, mills and gland water, sump pumps working, blackjack tests on Sag Mill, etc.
  • Use of EWP to complete tasks.
  • Use of bobcat and IT to clean up spillage.
  • Loading steel in Sag Mill and Ball Mill.
  • Loading recycled media off conveyer belt with magnetic belt to charge up the Verti Mill.
  • Start up and shut down Sag Mill, Ball Mill, Verti Mill and all Regrind Mills.
  • Service Primary Cyclones as required.
  • Service Regrinds Cyclones and unblock when required.
  • Change over pumps to stand by pumps as required.
  • Use of gantry crane.
  • Charge up mills after service.

Dewatering and Filtration Area

  • Use of correct PPE and safety equipment when required.
  • Running and operating of 3 filters larox filters.
  • Changing filter cloths as required.
  • Completing log sheets regularly.
  • Run filters to maximise production targets.
  • Change HP hoses when blown.
  • Delegate maintenance repairs to tradesman.
  • Filter bulk con, Zinc Con and Lead Con.

  • Control floc to thickeners and adjust according to the clarity, density and how the thickeners look.
  • Checks on pumps and gland water.
  • Housekeeping and cleaning of area.

Control Room

  • Weekly Safety check of Emergency siren, radio, phone and pagers.
  • Emergency Procedure ready always as all Emergency go through Control Room until Emergency Response Team or Paramedics arrive.
  • Monitor the whole concentrator plant in every day run.
  • Monitor alarms and inform Area Operator.
  • Shutdown and start up the whole concentrator plant.
  • Work closely with the Metallurgist with the running of the concentrator plant to maximise production.
  • Work closely with Superintendent, Supervisor, Area Operators Electricians and Maintenance to maintain a steady concentrator plant and prioritise jobs as they come up with normal operations and alarms.
  • Work closely with the Ore Prep Crusher Control Room to monitor different types of Ore blends.
  • Record production operation daily.

Flotation Area

  • Work closely with the Metallurgist with the running of the Floatation Circuit to maximise production.
  • Monitor and visual checks on Rougher and Cleaner Cells for performance, overdosing of reagents, cells pulping, pills or darts are stuck, dead cells, etc.
  • Manual checks on reagents to make sure reaching set value on DCS and SG is within range of targe.
  • Work closely with the Ore Prep Crusher Control Room to monitor different types of Ore blends as the head grade will change and must set the Rougher and Cleaner Cells different depending on ore blend.
  • Monitor the OSA numbers and move reagents accordingly, if anything looks out of the ordinary do visual checks before any moves.
  • OSA samples done every shift and taken to Lab to make sure OSA numbers are within range.
  • Service Pre-Cyclones and unblock as required.
