D.J. specialties is a grocery/convenience store located in Iqaluit, Nunavut. As Cargo manager, I was in charge of all responsibilities related to the shipping and receiving of cargo to and from the store. This business was located in a small community in Nunavut in the high arctic, which can only be accessed by plane for the majority of the year, and by cargo ships (Sealift) during the summer months. This presented challenges specific to running a business in this part of the world, and I was able to learn and grow as a professional in this field. My daily and yearly duties were as follows.

  • Daily pick ups and deliver of cargo to and from warehouse and store, Handling up to 3000 - 10,000 kg of cargo per week.
  • Daily pick up of cargo from airport to store and or warehouse.
  • Completing yearly sealift orders of all non - perishable items to be stored at warehouse.
  • Coordinating sealift operations between suppliers and Sealift companies. (i.e. delivery of pallets of our products to shipyard to be loaded into shipping containers, as well as deliver of these containers from boats to warehouse.)
  • Unloading cargo from shipping containers into storage at warehouse using counterbalance forklift. Approximately 850,000 Kg of cargo per year.
  • Fulfilling weekly orders to be delivered by plane.
