- Hosting Manager responsible for the day to day operations of the Bekkers IT data centre in addition to additional duties as a client-facing Level 3 Senior network engineer. Responsibilities of the role include provisioning of customer hardware in collocation, day to day operations of the DC environment.
- Software development using a variety of scripting languages including VBscript, ASP, PHP and Unix shell scripts.
- I have extensive experience in the deployment of Linux and Windows hosts both physical and virtualised on a variety of host platforms including VMware, Xen and Hyper-V. I have experience in deploying these same host operating systems in highly available fault-tolerant configurations.
- Config and implement hardware from a range of vendors (Foundry, Cisco, HP) including configuration of VLAN’s, trunking and other switch related functionality as required.
- Migration of the Bekkers IT ISP core from disparate links terminating in the WAIX room at QV1 across to a new Foundry switching core hosted in their existing collocation facility in Inglewood. This migration involved liaison between ourselves and our upstream carriers (Amcom/NextGen). Subsequent to this was the planned and scheduled migration of a large number of ISP fibre and colocation clients from the old Cisco based core to the new switching infrastructure.
- Integration and implementation/troubleshooting of multiple ISP / DSL carriers (including Amcom, Telstra, M2 and AAPT) into Bekkers existing billing and authentication databases across disparate systems. This was implemented using a combination of Radius and LDAP based authentication integrating with the existing MySQL based back-end application. This work included some PHP development work to ensure continued (synchronised) integration between the disparate systems involved.
- Direct support lead for all issues related to external providers (Fibre, DSL and other carrier related issues) in addition to that related to the physical infrastructure of the data centre. During this time I have established long working relationships with a number of DC related vendors including APC, MetroWest and Hadens, in addition to our existing relationships with our carrier partners.
- Design, implement and deployment of a Virtual Private Server (VPS) mode utilising a combination of Microsoft SPLA licensing and customised Linux installs. Clients using the VPS model are deployed across a dedicated hosting blade chassis for this purpose utilising VMware ESX in a high availability environment. (This is achieved using a combination of VMware DRS/HA in addition to Vmotion to ensure where possible provide continuous operation of VPS servers even in the event of a physical hardware fault within a server blade)

- Senior pre/post-sales consultant specialising in Cisco, Linux and Windows support. Responsibilities included design, both implementation and maintenance of client servers and networks and remote/on-site troubleshooting.
- Lead support engineer for an engineer team of 5 staff (4 system engineers and 1 junior) providing telephone and research support where issues experienced were outside their realm of expertise.
- Design and implementation of client network upgrade proposals utilising primarily Cisco hardware – this included the design and implementation of remote access VPN solutions utilising both IPSEC and PPTP protocols. VPN solutions implemented included both Site-To-Site VPNs and Road-warrior connections for remote clients.
- Design and implementation of high performance Linux servers using both SuSE Enterprise Server and RedHat Fedora – These servers primarily utilised open source packages such as Postfix, Spam Assassin and ClamAV to perform anti-spam scanning of clients email prior to delivery to internal servers. This same task was also achieved using the Trend Micro IMSS product for those clients wishing for a commercial solution.

- Management and lead support for 8 technical staff including developers and system administrators. Responsibilities included management of the global IT operations for Adultshop.com including servers hosted in collocation facilities located in Amsterdam, San Diego and Canberra.
- Management of the companies after-hours support requirements including provision of both after-hours and on-call support. This responsibility lead to the design and installation of support and alerting systems, utilising both commercial (ipMonitor) and open source (Nagios) products, including integration with both online (MSN/ICQ) and SMS paging.
- Lead design and support engineer for collocation network consisting of approx 45 servers utilising a mix of Linux, FreeBSD and Windows operating systems. Ongoing maintenance included software and vendor upgrades in addition to software compilation / troubleshooting as required. Adultshop’s retail IT division utilise Windows, ASP and MS SQL to host their websites, whereas Adultshop’s entertainment IT division utilise FreeBSD, PHP and MySQL for their hosting. Support of this production network required advanced knowledge with all of these products, including the ability to upgrade/recompile software as required if an exploit is discovered.
- Provide support for head-office network, consisting of 20 servers, supporting 50 users. The head office network utilises Windows 2003, with Active Directory providing directory applications. Server applications supported include Exchange, SQL Server in addition to custom software for website/database reporting and management.
- Design, implementation and ongoing support of 20 station retail Point Of Sale network utilising ePOS point of sale software integrated with a backend utilising Epicor.
- Design and implementation of retail website integration components providing integration between Adultshop’s custom designed website and the Epicor warehousing software recently implemented.

- Whilst in this role, I implemented a full redesign of the Adultshop back-end management systems, including upgrade of internal SQL server database servers from SQL v7 to SQL 2000. This redesign project involved technologies such as Triggers, Stored Procedures and Full-Text indexing. Additional optimizations were then implemented on the database using applications such as Coefficient. Adultshop’s original implementation of the website utilised primarily ASP with no VB components. Through the use of VB components, ASP optimization and a redesign of the SQL database backend, an approx 400% improvement in performance was realised on identical server hardware.
