EMERGENCY, GENERAL WARD AND AGED CARE NURSING

Six months of twelve month postgraduate course

• Worked in small team of two - comprised of RNs and ENs - to ensure care in all areas were effective with regular clients and new patients
• Triaged and assessed patients prior to collaborating with physicians to deliver appropriate treatment or arrangement of transfer
• Administered IV, IM, IO and PO medications while monitoring responses
• Acute and chronic wound management
• Completed proficiency with IV cannulation and venipuncture
• Educated patients, families and caregivers on basics of diagnosis

SURGICAL WARD AND DAY SURGERY NURSING

• Managing care from admission to discharge including emotional and physical support, medication administration and wound treatment both pre-op and post-op
• Advocating for patients by communicating care preferences to practitioners, verifying interventions and treatment goals
• Educating patients and caregivers of proper wound management, post discharge care, safe medication use, and disease management
• Oversee nursing team in surgical unit, providing extra support when necessary and delegating tasks

SCOPE NURSING

Since May 2021

• Assisting proceduralist with gastroscopies, colonoscopies, bronchoscopies and ERCPs
• Assisting anaesthetic team with sedation and general anaesthetics in both planned and emergent situations
• Training new nurses with proper techniques, care standards, and safety protocols
• Providing skilled, timely and level-headed emergency care to critically-ill patients peri-operatively
• Reprocessing and testing endoscopes manually alongside use of soluscope machines
