As a lead clinician within a multidisciplinary clinical service team I utilises expert clinical consultancy to support the delivery of safe acute and chronic respiratory disease patient care at Maitland Hospital. This is best evidenced by using the Five Domains of the Clinical Nurse Consultant:


Domain: Clinical Service and Consultancy

Across a range of medical and surgical services, I:

  • Provide a complex client-centred consultancy practice for patients with COPD, Asthma, Pneumonia, Respiratory Failure and Pregnancy and Asthma.
  • Undertake clinical supervision of medical and surgical staff responsible for delivering respiratory patient care


Domain: Clinical Leadership

I am an active expert clinician for respiratory nursing clinical leadership, evidenced by my:

  • Participation in State and or National Working Parties - see achievements and skills.
  • Undertaking leadership roles which promote a broader advancement of respiratory clinical practice related to Standards and Position Papers - see publication

  • With proficiency I plan and implement respiratory focused staff and patient education for our hospital using evidenced based practice guidelines such as COPD-X, GOLD, GINA.
  • Committing to best practice, as a lead clinician i collaborate with peers within our Hunter New England Local Health District Respiratory Stream to direct local and district education.
  • At a state level I am a member of the Agency for Clinical Innovation Respiratory Network Meetings and actively participate in regards to learning gaps; for example current National Asthma Council guidelines, COPD Standards and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
