I am currently working as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency department where I am attending to patients who require immediate medical attention following trauma, severe injury and acute-onset symptoms.

  • I am currently working as a Registered nurse and have had the opportunity to work as A/Clinical Nurse in the Cancer and blood disorder unit at GCUH.
  • As an experienced chemotherapy nurse, my responsibility is to provide life saving treatment to patients with Oncology & Haematology disorders.
  • Responsible to ensure all my patients are well educated regarding their treatment to increase their understanding of their condition, improve their health outcome and supporting their loved ones in these difficult times

  • In the cancer & blood disorders unit, we often complete medical procedures weekly such as Bone marrow aspiration, management of ascites drains and lumbar puncture.
  • Some of my key duties and skills are outlined below;
  • Managing a 30 bed outpatient department, coordinating 80-100 treatments per day and over seeing 15-20 staff per day
  • Ensuring medications are ordered and medication protocol's are ordered correctly and at a legal standard
  • Liaising with medical officers, allied health and Cancer nurse specialist
  • Coordinating and managing treatment schedules, problem solving and trouble shooting concerns raised by medical staff
  • Scheduling appointments and coordinating patient appointments to align with treatment schedules
  • CVAD & IV cannulation competent; including management, troubleshooting, Extravasation, and efficient patient education is adhered to.
  • Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy competent and appropriate ADAC qualifications completed
  • Management of chemotherapy-induced reactions and assisting in regular Medical emergencies
  • Management of Pleura and Ascites drains
  • Providing Palliative care treatments and therapy and providing holistic care for patients and loved ones
  • Administration of blood products & supportive therapy e.g PRBC, Platelets, IVIG, Iron infusion.
