Summary

I have completed my TPPP graduate program in the role of a scrub and scout perioperative nurse through a clinical rotation in plastic surgery. Post my graduate program, I was able to stay on at Flinders Operating Theatre as a full-time permanent staff member on the five-day roster. During this time, I have rotated through Gynecology, Colorectal, ENT, Urology, and currently Orthopedic trauma. I have been able to grow and nourish my skills as a scrub and scout nurse in these clinics through being mentored by ANUMs and senior staff members. Through this, I have gained skills and knowledge for not only scouting, but also for being able to scrub for more complex procedures. During my time so far in this role, I have learned more about the importance of advocating for patients and patient safety in the operating theatre, ensuring that the patient has a safe and positive experience, as it can be an extremely vulnerable time.
