Umhlanga private hospital consists of 210 beds and 8 theatres. This hospital has 3 surgical wards, 2 ICU units, neonatal ICU, maternity unit, medical ward and day ward including trauma emergency department. I was employed as the senior registered nurse (CN) in the orthopaedic / surgical ward. The ward consisted of 30 beds normally with a capacity of 70 - 80%. The focus was on mainly orthopaedic surgery, pre and post operative care. Main focus on joint replacement and the overflow from general surgery as well.
