Additional Information

  • Port Phillip Placement : 12 – 18yr room. Working alongside students with ASD, High Functioning Anxiety, PICA, Non-Verbal, and Cerebral Palsy. Learning expertise from P.D. sessions and Education Support Certificate on ADHD and Autism; the opportunity to use various skills with challenging behavior's. Using various techniques with PPSS staff encouragement increased the awareness and confidence required for the position of ESO. Working beside another ESO with guidance, illustrating how to administer medications and recordings, assist students in toileting, feeding, communication, conflicts between students and helping them self-regulate. Participation included assisting the teacher as directed, cleaning and packing up before and after activities, the breakfast club, yard duty, PICA feeding, singing, and reading books. In addition, playing with students within the playground or classroom, dancing, art, daily walks, helping other classrooms as per routine and learning necessary signing skills to communicate with non-verbal students. Bus collection and drop off routines.
  • Working 1:1 at Keilor Downs College Placement allowed me to understand mainstream students' struggles. Helping with all subjects, working with students to find better ways to remember their things for class, helping students stay on track, working with others in the class who were finding the work difficult.
  • Working independently as a Social Support Officer has improved my communication skills, empathy and mental health awareness. I was supporting a young lady with High Anxiety/Mental Health/BPD. Having encouraged her to pursue her dreams of becoming a nurse, I have helped encouraged her to enrol in university.
  • Casual work as a Teachers Aid at Sunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist School, Sunbury campus included working in rooms with children aged from Prep to Grade 6 with various disabilities. Students require different complex 1:1 additional support with the educational curriculum. Support students who are learning to self-regulate or have behavioural disorders by allowing them space outside away from others to prevent harm to themselves or other students. Bullengarook campus students are grades 7 - 12, ranging from social disorders to complex disabilities. Students require 1:1 help with their studies, with most students achieving VCAL in year 12. Students are encouraged to acquire a job while attending school if possible and to look towards their future careers.
