My name is Kirra, and I am currently completing my nursing graduate year in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. I recently completed my first rotation in theatre at Broome Hospital, working across anaesthetics, day surgery, and recovery. I will soon relocate to Kununurra to continue the program on the general ward, gaining experience in surgical, medical, paediatric, and mental health care—with a strong focus on Indigenous health.
Nursing aligns with my core values of collaboration, integrity, and trust. It allows me to educate, promote health, and build meaningful connections. Growing up in Tasmania, I was always drawn to healthcare, but it wasn’t until moving to the Gold Coast and being exposed to its health-focused lifestyle that I became passionate about holistic wellbeing. This environment, alongside my nursing journey, sparked a strong interest in natural medicine and preventative care.
My experience in the healthcare system this year has further solidified my desire to pursue naturopathy. In 2025, I will return to Tasmania to continue nursing while also beginning studies in Naturopathic Medicine—a path inspired by my own experience managing Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Living with an autoimmune condition has deepened my appreciation for integrative care and motivated me to help others facing similar challenges. I hope to one day specialise in thyroid and autoimmune health, combining both disciplines to provide individualised, holistic care. My vision is to integrate evidence-based nursing with natural therapies to empower people to manage their health confidently and sustainably.
