My empathetic and genuine approach allows me to establish meaningful connections with individuals and foster an environment in which they feel understood and supported. I have a strong ability to navigate complex situations and emotions, and provide effective and tailored interventions. I specialise in identifying and encouraging individual abilities, talents, and resources, promoting not just coping mechanisms, but holistic growth. My ability to work with diverse teams and communities, combined with academic training in child and youth wellbeing, makes me a well-qualified professional ready to contribute to Merri Creeks wellbeing initiatives.
I am motivated to work in a school setting because I value the sense of community it offers, and I strive to incorporate these elements into my professional and personal life.
Better Futures is a program that assists young people as they make the transition from Out Of Home Care (OOHC) and foster care to independent living, supporting them until they reach the age of 21. This program empowers these young people to play an active role in planning their transition and offers personalised support in various aspects of their lives, both while in care and after they've left care. These areas encompass housing, health, well-being, education, employment, and their connections to the community and their cultural heritage.
The Homelessness to Homes program (H2H program provides people with access to stable housing and holistic support within a multidisciplinary team. This program uses a Housing First framework, which by securing stable accommodation first, enables clients to engage in services to address presenting needs and goals.

I would like to express my interest in the role of a school social worker / counsellor or wellbeing support at Merri Creek Primary School. I am a qualified social worker and counsellor that values community, connection, and an individualised approach to healing and therapy. I am a 26-year-old female who is genuine and gentle. I seek to understand everyone's unique experience and enable inclusive growth. My intention is to work with and support an individual beyond their presenting needs, to identify and encourage their abilities, talents, and resources, enabling them not only to cope, but thrive. I am an active member of the community and value a school's unique eco-system and culture.
I am currently working as a counsellor at Advanced Psychology Melbourne and as Youth Development Coach in the Better Futures Program at Melbourne City Mission, MCM. My work reflects a sense of purpose in my life. Working with a diverse range of young people, dealing with complex situations and heightened emotions, demonstrates my strengths. My empathic, warm personality enables me to connect with and welcome these young people as individuals and explore appropriate interventions and approaches. I strive to work in a community, such as a school environment, where I can collaborate with students and team members to create individualised and creative well-being programs and interventions. I am interested in alternative therapies that include all people in the well-being space, to find familiarity, kindness and healing.
During my academic journey, my focus has consistently revolved around the well-being of children and young people, emphasising areas such as sexual health, trauma prevention, and the needs of marginalised populations. A significant highlight of my academic endeavors is the completion of my thesis, titled "Sexuality Education in Victorian Secondary Schools: The Lived Experiences of Young People with Disabilities." This research was driven by the goal of fostering inclusive sexual education, mitigating sexual assaults, nurturing positive identities, promoting healthy sexual expression, and cultivating positive intimate relationships.
I am particularly drawn to your Resilience, Rights, and Respectful Relationships Program at Merri Creek, as it strongly resonates with my passion, drive, and values. I believe that my insights and unwavering commitment to these issues can contribute meaningfully to the program's objectives.
I am committed to continuing learning with our First Nations People from a space of respect, curiosity, humility, and awareness around my own privilege and unconscious bias.
I thank you for taking the time to review my application.
Warm regards,
Kitty Wilson
