Accomplished Well-Being Support Officer at DPFEM since 2019, adept in providing critical support to emergency service workers and their families. Leveraging high-level written and oral communication skills honed over 37 years as a front line, operational police officer and 22 years of these as a police negotiator. I excel in delivering effective well-being programs and fostering resilience. Proven leadership and adaptability underscore my commitment to enhancing workforce mental health.
High level written communication skills These have been developed throughout my career through preparing court files, operation orders for major events involving police such as Burnie TEN, Christmas Parades, large scale investigation involving property and offender searches, road safety blitz operations and the like
High level oral commination skills, both listening and talking have been developed in dealing with a very wide cross section of the community, often dealing with them when they are in a state of distress My work as a police negotiator for over 22 years exemplifies this
I have the ability to look at things in a calm, rational and logical way, even when under pressure I have developed these critical thinking skills through experience and exposure to a wide variety of life challenges, both professionally and personally
As Sergeant, I was in charge of a number of sub-ordinates or various levels of experience and diverse background Choosing to be a leader was a work lifestyle I was heavily invested in I wanted to be a leader and as such, was a student always looking to learn ways to be better The best leaders always see themselves as students, not as experts My mantra was to be the leader I wished I had and this served me well in being able to help those I was leading, be the best versions of themselves, not just for themselves but for others including their employer As such I was always able to lead with influence, integrity and effectiveness
Adapatability - The ever changing world of legislation, police practices, procedures etc has exposed me to a world of change I have grown accustomed to this and as such, can adjust ot unexpected changes in a calm, low stress manner For a well-being support officer, this is an important skill as clients are subject to shifting circumstances that require stability and adaptability
