Training on YSTR DNA Testing

October 2024

  • Received training in relation to Y-chromosome DNA testing the main application which interprets male and female DNA results that are mixed. In sexual assault matters this type of testing can selectively target male DNA, as such harbours the ability to easily identify male DNA when compared to other testings systems. It can also be used in matters involving missing persons where a DNA sample from a male relative can assist in identifying whether the test sample is related.

  • Conducted various tasks through an online course format that included contract interpretation, client communication, legal research and analysis in the areas of ICOS and Digital Currencies, Financial Licensing and Regulatory Advice.

Assisted in the submission to the Queensland Parliament in relation to the Criminal Law (Raising the Age of Responsibility Amendment Bill 2021)

November 2021

  • Worked with other law students on preparing a submission recommending legislative amendments be made to raise the age of criminal responsibility in QLD from 10 yrs old to 14 yrs old. Undertook specific research on the legislative framework at the time that had significant impacts on Indigenous Australian communities.
