Summary

A passionate teacher who is dedicated to enabling students from all backgrounds to thrive in an educational setting. With a vast range of experience in working with students of all ages and abilities, has strengthened my knowledge and harnessed my ability to engage and adapt effective lesson plans tailored to meeting individual student needs. Through these various roles, I have had the opportunity to support the development of children while providing holistic care, carefully assessing their Education Health Care Plan (EHCP), comparable to Australia's Individualised Education Program (IEP) and utilising all resources to promote not only their best educational but personal and independence goals. Completing my PCGE during Covid 19 allowed me think outside the box, overcome obstacles and equipped me with strong problem solving abilities.

Work History

PGCE Placement

Holy Cross Catholic Primary School
01.2021 - 03.2021
  • Outline - Taught in a mainstream school with the help of a HLTA (higher level teaching assistant) while the teacher was off on maternity. This gave me a proper insight into teaching a class by myself and encouraged more independent lessons and using skills from working in an SEN classroom to enhance lessons delivered to those within a mainstream setting.
  • - Prepared students for their end of term assessment on Phonics, with focus on the curriculum objectives
  • - Delivered a Spanish lesson based on a video link shared by the lead teacher and developed it further based on my own knowledge of Spanish, including all students in understanding the material and engaging them by pronouncing phrases and translating effectively
  • - Used real life objects to improve students' knowledge of 3-D shapes and prompted them to find objects themselves to reinforce their understanding – using interactive methods of teaching to hold attention and engage fully
  • - Collaborated with the teacher to deliver lesson plans via zoom – Continuously updated any marking of work and highlighted areas that needed improvement (what the students did not understand) for the next lesson

PGCE Placement

Palmerston school
01.2019 - 01.2021
  • Outline – Delivered primary level lessons to students ranging from the ages of 11-13 years old with a range of special education needs, including behavioral and profound(non-verbal/sensory-led). During Covid we had students in lower, middle and higher ability set within the one classroom, therefore incorporating EHCP and tailoring lessons was essential.
  • Key responsibilities:
  • - Adapted lessons to meet individual needs of students, providing inclusive resources e.g. sensory material, PECS
  • - Managed the behaviour of students on intervention plans, ensuring the appropriate measures were taken to reinforce positive behaviour while modifying negative behaviour.
  • - Assessed students' progress against their EHCP to monitor progress and tailored upcoming lessons accordingly.
  • - Overseen the duties of the teaching assistants, delegating one-to-one tasks with students who needed extra attention during that lesson – revised the work afterwards to track progress
  • - Delivered emotional development lessons with ASD students focusing on how to regulate their own emotions, reading others facial expressions and sensory stimulation strategies to enhance their social skills, promote better relationships and their own overall wellbeing.
  • - Worked one-to-one in English lessons with a student with delayed speech for an 8-week period, focusing on phonic sounds and letters to improve her communication skills and ability to read words
  • - Created a unit on ‘money’ where we played shop and used real money for students to ‘buy’ items - we worked on identifying coins, giving the correct amount, receiving the correct change as well as social interaction for those on the spectrum - this promotes more independence for students and vital skills needed in their day-to-day life
