Work History

Fuel and KEE-Bundu Manager

KEE Group
01.2016 - 04.2023

During my time at KEE group, I commenced a role managing and developing a start up fuel supply and distribution business. What attracted me to the role was the opportunity to execute business skills gained from both large cooperate style structured businesses down to family owned and operated small manufacturing businesses with a focus on developing strategies in what is a saturated highly volatile but structured hydrocarbon industry.

The opportunity also arose to commence and develop a not for profit Aboriginal joint venture business with Bundu contracting focusing on funding scholarships for indigenous youth through government funded construction projects.

KEE Bundu was formed as a supply nation certified fuel distribution business focusing on supplying fuel into government funded projects to tier 1 contractors particularly focusing on the Metronet projects

The most of the KEE-Bundu role was selecting and mentoring indigenous youth to delelop skills into what was traditionally a very closed male orientated industry.

I most enjoyed the strategic planning and development and an "out of the box" style of thinking focusing on refining and developing ideas and concepts for the business stakeholders.

Although I had accountability for the overall business the key focuses were in areas listed below

  • Procurement management including establishment, development and execution of key supplier contracts
  • Compliance management - Development and implementation of Main Roads Heavy Vehicle Accreditation for vehicles distributing dangerous goods and Australian standards accreditations
  • Operational - Development and implementation of distribution schedules, critical R&M schedules
  • Stakeholder management and engagement - All aspects of employee management along with management and motivational strategies with all levels of stakeholders
  • Financial - Responsible for daily and monthly budgeting requirements and associated accountabilities
  • Safety and Environment - Accountable for establishing, developing and mentoring a proactive thinking environment where all stakeholders felt included and comfortable to openly discuss issues and ideas to help reach set expectaions
  • Continual improvement - Adaptable and proficient in learning new concepts quickly and efficiently and working collaboratively with different stakeholders to develop either different approaches or refining fixed required processes to deliver required goals
  • Aboriginal Engagement - Responsible for negotiation of contracts with project and procurement managers to help achieve required governmental objectives and income stream to be able to deliver required funds for training and scholarship requirements

Spray Seal Manager

Boral Construction Materials
10.2009 - 11.2015

My role at Boral resided in the road infrastructure project delivery contracting team.

I started this role as essentially a programmer and project allocator. I was given the opportunity to take over the department after the business was not performing to its potential. Working with established junior staff (of which I was one) we managed to make changes to the business within the Boral required frameworks while successfully developing a world class sprayed seal business.

I believe this was achieved by engaging the employees and encouraging and motivating them to proactively wanting to achieve a common goal.

This in turn did lead to easily surpassing the expected economic forecast budget expectations

An overview of the responsibilities and what I considered the greatest achievements below

  • Training and motivation of up to 50 staff (up to 5 project crews, office staff, project staff and bitumen distribution personnel)
  • Project management of multiple concurring major projects across both remote Western Australian locations to the largest major road infrastructure projects
  • Technical execution and compliance to MRWA and Austroads specifications and standards
  • Participation in all aspects of management meeting requirements and internal auditing requirements (HSE, quality, operational, training and financial) while holding a position on the national Spray sealing advisory group
  • Collaborative approach to the pricing and tender submissions for project works
  • Development of effective working relationships with client and business stakeholders (internal and external) including subcontractor engagement and management of supply contracts
  • Effectively communicating and re-enforcing all aspects of company safety procedures and policies
  • Incident investigation, identifying root causes and contributing factors that lead to identifying then implementation of mitigation strategies

LPG / Bitumen Contracts Manager

Cootes Transport / International Energy Services
05.2002 - 10.2009

After Leaving a family owned and operated manufacturing business I commenced firstly as a LPG tanker operator where I received comprehensive training into the hydrocarbon distribution industry specialising in the distribution of compressed LPG gasses.

After 2 years of operating I was asked if i wanted to migrate into the office to manage and help develop the growing WA business.

During this time one of the major achievements was the development of the Elgas west coast business, the doubling of the size of the required fleet and associated staff and further integration with the East costs business leaders and associated stakeholders

I was also fortunate enough to also be given the opportunity to help the integration of a purchased bitumen distribution business that was described as the "jewel in the crown" of the national business.

I enjoyed this challenge immensely as it was an opportunity to learn a new aspect of dangerous goods transport and develop further

The role included

  • Various daily scheduling and rostering of a 24/7 operation HR management
