I am from Ireland and currently in Australia on a working holiday visa. For over a year now, I’ve been working at Daydream Island Resort, where I’ve gained valuable experience in a dynamic, fast-paced, and customer-focused environment. During this time, I've completed the required six months of regional employment. I've taken on a variety of roles across the island, each of which has contributed to my personal and professional growth, and provided me with a broad and rewarding range of experience!
I initially started working as a breakfast attendant and barista in the resort café. Currently, I primarily work in the fine dining restaurant, either as waitstaff or behind the bar. I also assist in various areas of the resort as needed, which has allowed me to gain fresh experiences and develop a well-rounded skill set.
I worked full time as a barista and waitress, usually opening or closing alone, after two months,I became in charge of training new employees
I worked part-time and often full-time closer to events as a sales professional with a focus on trade show planning in the events sector. I created and managed a database of potential and existing clients. I developed a pricing strategy, business leads and maintained professional connections.
I Completed a 6-month work placement during 4th semester, followed by one year of part-time work while employed at Premier Publishing and Events.
Here I developed detailed planting schemes and conceptual landscape designs tailored to client briefs. I created scaled technical drawings using AutoCAD and 3D visualizations using SketchUp. I Produced high-quality design presentations using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). Throughout this internship I gained valuable sales insight and experience, driven by a growing interest in the commercial side of design and client engagement.
I worked at the New York Athletic club for the summer on a J1 Visa. I worked full-time mainly with children from 6-12 but was often asked to teach adult classes in the evenings. I documented daily class attendance, daily performance, and weather. I provided personalised feedback to students, enabling them to improve their sailing skills and achieve personal goals.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I assisted elderly people who were isolating or felt
uncomfortable in crowded settings by providing personal shopping services at a
supermarket. I took their shopping lists over the phone in the morning, gathered the
items in the afternoon, and ensured they were delivered on the same day.
I worked here for two summers while I was in University. I Managed groups of up to 14 students of varying ages and skill levels, ensuring each
individual received personalised instruction, I developed lesson plans, assisted with
boating safety and maintenance of equipment. encouraged teamwork and collaboration among participants through group activities and exercises.
