Current undergraduate psychology student at UQ with hands-on experience in mentoring, crisis support, and youth outreach. Skilled in empathetic communication, behaviour support, and working with diverse populations including underrepresented, rural, and at-risk communities. Strong foundation in psychological theory with practical application through roles at Lifeline, UQ’s Young Achievers Program, and various outreach initiatives. Passionate about mental health, wellbeing, and supporting individuals through transitions, and is keen to continue building clinical and organisational skills in real-world settings.
I support 14 high school students from underrepresented backgrounds in their educational and personal development, applying principles of motivation, wellbeing, and resilience to help them navigate the transition to university. Through regular mentoring sessions and group activities, I foster a positive, empowering environment that encourages goal-setting and self-efficacy. This role has enhanced my skills in active listening, empathy, and leadership.
I provide real-time crisis support via text to individuals experiencing emotional distress, suicidal ideation, or mental health challenges. I use evidence-based techniques including active listening, safety planning, and de-escalation to support help-seekers in high-stress situations. This role has strengthened my capacity for empathetic communication, emotional regulation, and ethical decision-making. It has also deepened my understanding of mental health issues across diverse populations, including young people, culturally diverse communities, and those in acute crisis.
I communicate regularly with domestic and international prospective students, providing timely updates on applications, pathways, and required documentation. I assist with complex inquiries including scholarship applications, waiver requests, and supporting students from conflict-affected regions. This role has enhanced my skills in clear, empathetic communication and problem-solving, while supporting diverse student needs.
Facilitated campus experiences and school-based workshops for students from rural, regional, and low-socioeconomic backgrounds. I delivered presentations on stress management, goal setting, and university access, while building mentoring and communication skills. I also gained insight into the barriers faced by underrepresented students over Queensland, which deepened my understanding of motivation and wellbeing in educational contexts.
Worked as part of a diverse team to connect through meaningful phone conversations, with a focus on relationship-building and communication. While the role involved fundraising for scholarships, research, and university initiatives, a large part of the engagement included active listening, wellness check-ins, particularly with older alumni and sharing relevant updates. This experience strengthened my interpersonal and empathetic communication skills, and gave me insight into how people reflect on major life transitions, identity, and belonging.
