I am 22 years old and at the end of year 11, I made the decision in my final years of secondary school to leave and complete my Certificate III in HSA
( Assisting in nursing work in acute care) HLT33115. I have since started working towards my Diploma of Enrolled Nursing as I have a passion for working in the health industry and I am wanting to extend my knowledge and go further with my studies.
As a young adult I found myself spending large amounts of any free time with my elderly grandfather and providing care for him in conjunction with the community care nurses, I witnessed the care they gave him and it sparked my passion in providing the same. I feel that at a very early age I was mature and knowing that this was my passion school was no longer the avenue for me, aged care was.
Without being boastful I believe I am a kind, caring and companionate person and will go above and beyond for those that I care for. Having worked in the aged care sector since 2019 I feel that the skills that I have learnt so far would make me an ideal candidate at the Byron Bay facility as a PSW.
In the beginnings of my training working St Vincents, I worked along side many Allied health professionals. these include, Specialty Surgeons, Anesthetists, Doctors, RNs, OT's, Pharmacist's and Physiotherapists.
This help build my communication and time management skills.
My passion is aged care and this is where I want to progress with my training and further my knowledge, I hope to have the opportunity to work at the byron bay facility in the near future.
I was an assistant in nursing on ward 3 & 4 (surgical & medical ward) Which involved looking after patients that had just come back from theatre and assisting them in there recovery and assisting them with daily living activities which involved assisting them with showering, toileting and even assisting them to walk. I demonstrated basic nursing care such as overserving any changes in the patients recovery and working alongside a medical team to make sure that the patient was receiving the best quality of care to help the patients with there recovery.
My position varied depending on what was required for that day but it included serving customers, restocking shelves, cleaning, stock take and doing some of the big orders for the store. I started off as a junior which involved serving customers and cleaning then i progressed into a senior and i was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to do some of the orders for the store and got to help out with the management side of it which included doing the banking and invoices etc.
I was also in charge of rostering for all staff members.
