I am diligent, outgoing, and reliable. I will always ensure that I complete a task no matter how time consuming or difficult I might find it to be. Consequently, this has enabled me to develop a strong work ethic, which has been advanced throughout the five years of working within the retail and hospitality industry. These attributes have aided me the ability to provide valuable customer service and become a trusted employee by my employers.
Whilst this isn’t my first hospitality job, it is my first job in Australia. The work culture isn’t too dissimilar, however, I’ve had to adapt to a completely new environment. This has required me to utilise my social skills considerably more than my professional abilities. Fortunately, by doing this, I’ve been able to thrive in this new work environment which was positively impacted my customer service skills. Additionally, with the venue being a popular spot within Fremantle, I’ve maintained my ability to effectively work in a fast paced setting; whilst remaining calm and collected.
Although this was a retail position, it mainly relied on my ability to sell. I taught myself the uses and properties of all the apple products, enabling me to become an effective sales member. Therefore, I was able to determine what product would best be suited for that particular customer, ultimately gaining recognition for being the best salesman of the month.
This restaurant was very different compared to my previous waitressing role. My role at NoMad required precision, whilst Ole Ole demanded efficiency and speed. However, due to my previous experience, I was able to maintain my composure and be a valuable employee. Also, I was able to gain experience expediting food on the pass, as my employers determined that I possessed the correct skills in overseeing and leading this section.
My key role within this job was to make refreshments before and during performances held at the venue. Despite never having previous bar experience, I soon learnt and understood what was required of me within this position. Working behind a bar requires you to be efficient whilst still maintaining excellent customer service. As it is a very popular venue within London, I had to serve a vast number of customers each shift, retaining a calm and collected demeanor during this time.
NoMad was my first job in the hospitality sector. Initially when I started, I personally felt out of my depth as I had never worked in an environment like this before. However, I persisted and wouldn’t let myself quit. Throughout my time at NoMad, I was able to obtain extensive knowledge of food and beverages that has ignited a certain passion for hospitality. Throughout my time there, I was also able to gain some experience as a barista, helping on shifts and sometimes being by myself. Due to what I learnt here, I now understand the importance of creating the perfect experience for guests, and the methods to do so.
I started working at Primark at the age of 16. It enabled me to develop many skills and qualities, such as confidence, time management and communication. Working in a very busy work environment has helped me not to be overwhelmed with high stress situations; easily combatting them. I only worked on weekends but always made myself available if extra help was required. Initially, I was only contracted to the fitting rooms. However, I was eager to gain experience in different areas of the store, always being up for a challenge. Ultimately, I gained experience in every part of the store, always being there if they needed an extra pair of hands.
