As a junior Referee for the ACT Water Polo I have had to engage in both remote and face to face learning to develop my understanding of the game. Personal Carer

For My Grandad (who Had Dementia)
Melba, ACT

As a young child my Grandfather was diagnosed with Dementia. I had a young carers roll and would often assist him to do every day tasks such as going swimming, paying entry, buying a drink, counting change. As the dementia increased and his condition deteriorated I would visit my Grandfather to assist with basic care and feeding needs. As a result of his condition I assumed many roles in the house supporting my Nana to upkeep the house. These included regular cleaning and upkeep of the pool, gardening, lawn mowing and other household chores. In this time I:

  • Built strong relationships with my grandparents to deliver emotional support and companionship.
  • Assisted with daily living needs to maintain self-esteem and general wellness.
  • Entertained, conversed and played music to keep patients mentally alert.
  • Determined specific needs and provided most appropriate level of services for patient well-being.
